Too often, people with Down syndrome face low expectations and limiting beliefs that prevent them from reaching their full potential. CoorDown’s 2024 campaign for #WorldDownSyndromeDay is here to challenge those stereotypes and flip the script. Starring Madison Tevlin, this powerful campaign film reveals the self-fulfilling prophecy in action. When society assumes people with Down syndrome can’t, they aren’t given opportunities to prove otherwise. Madison faces rejection—being denied a cocktail, underestimated in her abilities, and not encouraged to live independently. But when she boldly states “Assume That I Can,” the narrative changes. 💥 Suddenly, we see her thriving—living on her own, boxing, studying Shakespeare, and proving what’s possible when we believe in ability over limitations. This campaign was inspired by Marta Sodano, a 29-year-old Italian woman with Down syndrome, who highlighted how assumptions in education impact learning. If a teacher believes a student can’t understand something and never teaches them, the prophecy fulfills itself. But when given the right tools, individuals with Down syndrome can learn, grow, and achieve great things. Young blind pianist wows Leeds train station and viewers on new Channel 4 show The Piano 🤯🥲 Lucy, 13, left judges Mika and Lang Lang speechless with her rendition of ‘Chopin's Opus 9 Number 1’ on the programme, presented by Claudia Winkleman. The series sees members of the public take to the piano in train stations across the country. Judges watch in secret and decide who should go on to perform at Royal Festival Hall in London.
