โIn 2023, I was approached by a client, who had found my logo design work on ArtStation. The client's vision was to create a logo based on a "Bridge to Heaven" concept, a poignant and meaningful symbol for their business.
โAfter discussing the project, we agreed on a budget for the initial concept and design phase. I began to develop some rough ideas, but during the process, the client expressed a strong preference for a specific image they had found online. I explained that due to copyright, I could not replicate or directly copy the image.
โCreating a brand new, original design that captured the same feel would require a significantly larger scope of work, which unfortunately exceeded the agreed-upon budget. Ultimately, as the client preferred to proceed with a design that was a direct copy of the original copyrighted image, the project was put on hold.
โWhile the project didn't move to completion, it was a valuable lesson in upholding professional ethics and copyright law. It highlights the importance of clear communication about project scope and intellectual property from the very beginning.

In 2023, while watching YouTube, I came across the work of content creator Charlie Veitch. As a Manchester-based designer, I was intrigued by his travel documentary-style videos, many of which were filmed in my own city.
I noticed that his videos lacked a consistent brand identity, such as a logo or an intro, and was inspired to create some concepts for him. I developed several rough ideas for a logo based on his initials, C.V., and was close to finalizing a design I was confident in.
However, a new video was uploaded that gave me pause. I was uncomfortable with how he was communicating with homeless people he encountered, particularly how he recorded them against their will. It created a situation that I found difficult to support.
After seeing this, I made the conscious decision to not approach him about the logo. While the creative work was complete, I realized that I couldn't ethically align my work with a creator whose values seemed at odds with my own.
This project, though scrapped, was a valuable learning experience. It reminded me that a creative partnership is built not only on a shared vision for the work, but also on a mutual respect for a set of core principles. I believe this is a key part of my freelance work.

I'm revisiting a project from last year: my vector illustrations of Lainey Wilson, meticulously crafted with a striking 3 color palette prominently featuring her favorite color, turquoise, for Outlaw Swagger. My intention was to capture Lainey's unique blend of country grit and undeniable style. To achieve this, I translated her persona into bold, clean designs featuring a prominent angel wings motif and a sunburst graphic. The designs also include custom typography for the Outlaw Swagger title and a unique 'B.B.B.B.' slogan, an acronym for 'Baskin, Bell Bottoms Babe,' as a specific nod to her persona. This work resonated with Outlaw Swagger's rebellious spirit.
