Many men grow up believing they’re supposed to protect, provide and fix things.
When you lose a baby, there’s nothing to fix.
You can’t take away your partner’s pain. You can’t change the diagnosis. You can’t make everything okay.
For some men, that feeling of powerlessness becomes its own form of grief.
Sometimes you don’t even realise you’re not showing up in the way your partner needs because you’re trying so hard to stay strong. It doesn’t mean you don’t care. Sometimes you’re simply processing the loss differently.
Grief doesn’t always arrive at the same time, or look the same, for two people. If you’re not careful, that difference can drive you apart when you actually need each other most.
Lewis speaks honestly about that feeling of powerlessness in this conversation.
