New podcast episode out now! 🎧
🎤 In this episode I talk to Jeordie Shenton, a trailblazer in music industry related academic research.
🏅Jeordie is currently undertaking a PhD and his current work focuses on substance use among working musicians. I was very honoured to be able to dive into this thought-provoking conversation with him, where we explore the complex factors that contribute to musicians' increased susceptibility to substance use. From personal characteristics to industry specific pressures, we discuss how neurodiversity, class, race, gender, disability, and mental health intersect with drug use patterns. It's a deep dive into topics that have a profound impact on musicians' journeys and the industry as a whole.
🌟 Beyond his exciting research, Jeordie also made significant contributions as a contributing author to various music industry publications. The most recent of these is the book ‘Touring and Mental Health: The Music Industry Manual’, edited by and released earlier this year.
👏 Jeordie is also the coordinator of the Tonic Rider program which provides bespoke music industry-specific training and mental health support for music industry professionals.
💫 Jeordie is an exciting conversationalist and his in-depth analysis and thought-provoking perspectives offer a deeper understanding of the complexities of substance use within the music world.
His expertise and dedication are fascinating and he truly is paving the way for more positive change and better support systems for working musicians in this challenging industry.
Enjoy! ❤️

In this particular segment, Sofi delves into the mindset that propelled her towards achieving her aspirations and significant milestones. It’s a unique blend of courage and self-belief – two of Sofi’s strengths – that proved instrumental in her pursuit of musical excellence and in achieving the successes that she did in the industry.

"You don't get credit for being safe in life." -
Courage is absolutely necessary for creation. You need courage to make it in music. You need courage to do your own creative work, to stay true to yourself, to express things your own way. You need courage to risk exposing yourself to the appraisal of others. You need courage to believe that what you have created is worthwhile, regardless of the opinion of those others. You need courage to claim your own place in music. All of these are anything but safe.
That "F**k it" means going for it, despite the fear.
"The realm of the edge" is dangerous, but being courageous doesn't mean not experiencing fear, it means going for it, despite it!
Wishing you all a courageous week!

Self-compassion can help your creative practice. It is not some wishy-washy concept, but a powerful tool that can help you deal with negative emotions, increase your confidence and get unstuck.
Remember to accept your feelings, approach them with curiosity, and take actions that serve your best interests. With this mindset, you'll be well on your way to greater success and enjoyment in your creative practice!

The latest episode of the podcast is live!
In this episode I talk to Phil Stanley, better known as MC Fokus, who is a Hitchin based drum and bass MC, signed to Dispatch Recordings. He has been active in the scene for decades and is highly regarded for his versatility and for his lyricism that is infused with meaning and substance.
As you will hear, he is a truly fascinating, inspiring and authentic character who has been a real pleasure to chat with and with lots of insights to share.
During our conversation he really lives up to his moniker, as much of our conversation revolves around the importance and consequences of what you choose to focus on.
We talk about his music career, some of the significant milestones and challenges that he has overcome over the years.
Then, we dive deep into his experiences with low self-esteem and body image and the road he took to transform these challenges into fuel to help and support others.
I feel this is an important conversation, as men's mental health challenges are rarely talked about.
We covered a lot of ground and I really admire Phil for his openness, authenticity and honesty about his experiences.
