Transport posters – fairy tale edition. 🐺👧
This poster from 1980 is entitled ‘You get home quicker with a return ticket’, encouraging London Transport network users to buy return tickets instead of singles. The poster shows Little Red Riding Hood, conveniently avoiding the Big Bad Wolf by not needing to queue up for a ticket for her train.
We love the quirkier side of our collection. Have you ever seen this poster before?

To celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we’re highlighting some of the amazing contributions volunteers make here at the Museum. 🌟
One of our volunteers, Gerry Abrahams, has been a significant presence on the Friends sales team, where they sell transport memorabilia from the Emporium at our Museum Depot in Acton and at bus and rail heritage events throughout the year. Gerry is a marvel at interacting with visitors (no doubt influenced by his years working in TfL travel information) and fellow volunteers and staff always feel lighter when Gerry is around.
Gerry is also actively involved with our train preparation team. The team are responsible for keeping our rolling stock clean and tidy and are often seen at the Museum during the week cleaning carriages like the 1938 tube stock, much to the surprise and delight of our visitors!
A huge thank you to Gerry for all the warmth and enthusiasm he brings and for helping to create many positive memories. Thank you also to the Friends sales and train preparation teams for all their dedication, enthusiasm and for being such an amazing example of what volunteers can achieve.

Exploring 200 years of transport history
London Transport Museum explores the story of London and its transport system over the last 200 years, highlighting the powerful link between transport and the growth of modern London, culture and society since 1800. We care for over 450,000 items - preserving, researching and acquiring objects to use in our galleries, exhibitions and other activities.
As well as exploring the past, the Museum looks at present-day transport developments and concepts for urban transportation in the future, which includes a contemporary collecting policy for the benefit of future generations.
The Museum was granted charitable status in 2007 which has enabled us to secure funding from new sources such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, and trusts and foundations including the Luke Rees-Pulley Charitable Trust, thereby extending our learning and engagement programmes. This funding enables the Museum to offer learning opportunities, skills development and engaging programming to a wide variety of audiences.
