Happy Birthday Dóra Maurer!

In her recent ‘IXEK’ series – the title of which is the Hungarian plural for the letter ‘x’ – Dóra uses two or three fields of intersecting colour, to visually summon the shape of the Latin character.

Working with the limits of human perception, Dóra’s paintings pose visual puzzles that appear in constant flux. As the artist attests: ‘I make experiments, I change methods without restraint, and I think in formal oppositions.’

The exhibition presents works made by Anselm Kiefer in his studio in France over the past six years, including never-before-seen paintings and a large-scale glass vitrine.

Coinciding with the major presentation ‘Kiefer / Van Gogh’ at the Royal Academy of Arts, which explores the enduring influence of Vincent Van Gogh on Anselm Kiefer, the White Cube exhibition further examines the dialogue between the two artists.

Anselm Kiefer at White Cube Mason’s Yard opens from 25 June – 16 August 2025.

Closing Soon: ‘Effigy’ at

‘Effigy’, Alex Carver’s first exhibition in Asia, features two new series of paintings.

The first, referred to by the artist as the ‘Inferno’ paintings, draws inspiration from Alighieri’s 14th-century epic, ‘The Divine Comedy’, alongside other art-historical sources, including Medieval manuscripts and Old Masters paintings.

The second series is what the artist calls the ‘Landscape’ paintings. Notably purged of obvious human presence, these atmospheric works reaffirm Alex’s exploration of pervasive biopolitical and social violence.

⏳ Don’t miss your last chance to visit the exhibition, on view at White Cube Seoul until 14 June 2025.

Ellen Altfest: ‘When you're in front of something that’s so spectacular (...) how do you make it your own?’

Ellen’s new exhibition ‘Forever’ is now open at the Frist Museum, Nashville.

Inspired by Emily Dickinson’s poem, ‘Forever – is composed of the Nows’, Ellen’s latest exhibition serves as a gentle encouragement to embrace mindful presence.

This focus on the immediate moment is reflected in her process, which often involves working outdoors across the seasons, meticulously observing and rendering everyday objects that might otherwise escape our notice.

📌 On view at Frist Art Museum, Nashville, until 1 September 2025.

White Cube wishes Fred Tomaselli a Happy Birthday! 🎈

The artist’s public installation titled ‘Wild Things’ (2024) is permanently on view at the 14th Street Station Complex, New York City.

Inspired by the artist’s bird-watching experiences, the series of six vibrant mosaics depicts a woodpecker, a cardinal, an oriole and a falcon, among other native birds, celebrating species that reside year-round in New York City.

Speaking to Hyperallergic, Fred explained, ‘I wanted to bring this strangeness of the complexity and oddness that lives above ground and put it underground.’

In Ilana Savdie's new body of work at White Cube New York, the artist draws upon the tactics of survival in various organisms that rely on performance and trickery.

Across ten canvases, shape-shifting configurations unfurl orifices, entrails and other bodily fragments. Through a juxtaposition of abstraction and realistic elements, the artist tends to a proliferation of false realities, identities and narratives that contradict one other.

Mimicking, mocking, masquerading and playing dead, Ilana’s paintings refuse stability or categorisation.

‘Ilana Savdie: Glottal Stop’ is on view at White Cube New York until 14 June 2025.

In Focus: Richard Hunt’s ‘Dogonese’ (1985)

The bronze sculpture reflects Hunt’s sustained engagement with African visual languages and symbolic forms, celebrating the cultural legacy of Mali’s Dogon people.

Rising vertically like a ceremonial staff or totem, the sculpture’s angular forms recall the distinctive geometries of Dogon metalwork and ritual objects, while Hunt’s refined manipulation of bronze aligns the work with European modernist abstraction.

‘Dogonese’ is on view in ‘Richard Hunt: Metamorphosis – A Retrospective’ at until 29 June 2025.

‘I want to take sculpture away from narrative – there’s no story except the one you, the viewer, bring to it. Sculpture accepts its essential conditions: stillness, silence and lack.’ – Antony Gormley speaking to Whitewall.

Featuring 14 of the artist’s early works dating from the mid-1970s to early 1990s, the exhibition traces the evolution of Antony’s sculptural practice.
