Employment Rights Bill - What you need to know so far... It’s finally here! The new Labour government promised to introduce legislation to reform employment rights within 100 days of taking power and lo and behold they have published the Employment Rights Bill along with a Next Steps paper to explain how they’re planning to fulfil their manifesto prom...
The Labour campaign pledged a 'right to switch off' for employees to enable them to create more healthy boundaries between work and home life by refusing to answer work related contact or do additional work outside of their normal working hours.
It's common knowledge that poor work-life balance has a negative impact on employees wellbeing, increasing burnout and sickness absence.
Whilst it's not yet clear how this will be implemented, inspiration is being taken from the Belgian and Irish approaches to the right to disconnect from work, and it seems likely that businesses will need to work with their employees to understand the crunch points and address concerns specific to their organisation. We're looking forward to hearing more about how this approach can better support employees in managing their boundaries at work and supporting a happier and more productive workforce.

Do your employees get tips? If they do, you'll need to know about the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023, which will come into force on 1 October. This act makes it illegal to withhold tips from your workers.
Tips must be allocated in a fair and transparent manner and be passed on without deductions - it's hoped that this new legislation will result in workers taking home around ÂŁ200m more in earnings!
If you need help with understanding the new rules and how they impact you, give the HROverload team a call - we're happy to help!

The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 comes into place in October. The Act amends the Equality Act 2010 to introduce a new duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of their employees.
Employers already have a duty to prevent the sexual harassment of employees and can be held liable unless they can prove that they have taken steps to prevent this. The majority of sexual harassment cases in the workplace are between colleagues, yet the employer is responsible for this and should take measures to prevent this.
This week's blog explains how you can ensure you're complying with this new legislation.

With the Labour party back in power, it’s expected that they will strengthen Trade Unions and reverse some recent legislation brought in by the Conservatives. Trade Unions have played a significant role historically in shaping the working landscape in the UK. They act as a collective voice for employees, advocating for better working conditions, fair pay, and protecting workers' rights. Check out our latest blog for more.
