Central Committee presents tenebrous LIAR // Index for Working Musik // Compliance Unit
2025 sees the return of tenebrous LIAR, for the best part of two decades eminent photographer Steve Gullick has steered this artful, brutal, yet simultaneously beautiful musical project through to the release of its imminent ninth album.
Index for Working Musik emerged from the depths of an East End bunker in 2023 with Dragging the Needlework for the Kids at Uphole (Tough Love), a "He**in Country" affair, followed by the experimental Indexe'e. This year saw the release of Purple Born, an 8-minute track that channels the likes of John Fahey and Polvo—leather boys, leather girls, and silly cuckoo clocks—and serves as the first signal of the future to come in 2025.

Fragile pop songs for people who love C86 as much as they love power pop and punk, but who also have a soft spot for French Chanson from the 60’s onwards. An instant sugar rush with a bubblegum flavour of a band bought up on a diet of GIRLS AT OUR BEST, DOLLY MIXTURE and CHIN CHIN but also ELLI ET JACNO, LOUISE FERRON or RENAUD from who they lifted their album tittle. Part of a new wave of bands like ALVILDA and RIBBON STAGE their debut LP has bounce, it’s upbeat and it’s the perfect calling card.
Support comes from London combo Middleman who are taut and angular with hints of DC punk and Mission of Burma.
Secrecy make their debut performance. Every member has been in well known bands in London.

Evil Speaker Records presents a night of punk and hardcore live at The Waiting Room next Thursday with Middleman, Hellscape and Scab followed by DJ's upstairs until late.
Tickets: https://thewaitingroomn16.com/
Middleman:
London 4-piece, Middleman merge sharp catchy melodies and striking tension, creating music with depth and emotion. Their influences are clear: the tight, chord-heavy song structures of The Wipers, a rock ‘n roll looseness and wail of the Replacements and even some Neil Young inspired distorted leads. However, they breathe a freshness and personality into these songs making it their own.
Hellscape:
A zero sum unity of assured destruction, bound and drawn. An ostinato interrupted by a intense bellow and rhythmic violence. FFO Rudimentary Peni, Tales of Terror, TSOL, Amebix, Annie Anxiety, Mad are Sane etc etc
Scab:
Hailing from the seaside town of Portsmouth, SCAB represent the peaceful and quaint image of a decrepit whale carcass washed up on the shore. SCAB's sounds pays homage to the very best of late 80s UK Hardcore, Crust and Grindcore - think NA**LM DEATH meets EXTREME NOISE TERROR meets DOOM meets early HERESY.

Genre bending, Idioteque and company return with support from singer-songwriter Cal & turntablist Zio Sica at the end of January. Don't sleep on tickets!
