Why we migrated JamByte.io from AWS Amplify to Cloudflare 🚀

Amplify (backed by AWS CloudFront) and Cloudflare are content delivery networks (CDNs). When you build a website it has to run somewhere, in the past this would mean buying a computer that would be on 24/7 running the code responsible for your website.

Now in 2025, you can pay a Cloud provider to run this code for you. These costs are negligible for small websites and scale with growth.

Why we switched:

1. 🔒 Reduced Vendor Lock-in - Moving away from Amplify’s authentication system gives us more flexibility to adopt better solutions in the future

2. ⚡ Performance - Cloudflare is 3x faster than CloudFront (that Amplify uses under the hood)

3. 💰 Cost Efficiency - Cloudflare’s generous free tier means we pay £0 for the service

Bonus: Cloudflare has been really easy to setup and manage, this will reduce future time spent on deployments.

We had a great time partnering with to deliver a hands-on workshop teaching our Pi-Guard course!

Students learnt how to build an autonomous home security device that records audio and video when it detects motion! They learnt essential Python and BASH skills in the process.

This project was a great addition to their personal statements, helping them achieve places at the University of Warwick and others!
