It's back and better than ever! Get booking now for the Theatre Summer School, August 1st - 19th at The Kettering Lighthouse Theatre.

Royal & Derngate are collaborating with the National Youth Theatre for the first time on a brand new production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The theatre is looking for local young people to perform in this Made in Northampton production this summer. Auditions will take place at the theatre on Thursday 18 February.

Young people aged between 18 and 25, living within a 40-mile radius of Royal & Derngate, are eligible to apply for this unique opportunity to be involved in a large-scale production working alongside internationally recognised theatre-makers. The work is voluntary but a small number of bursaries are available to help support travel expenses.

Initial auditions will take place at the theatre on Thursday 18 February, with slots available at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. Auditions will be in the form of a group workshop which will focus on movement and vocal work (including singing) followed by solo auditions. Recalls will take place at the end of March.

Had a fun week working for the Royal and Derngate on their Easter youth theatre production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Also just sending a big shout out to Ryan Leder who gave a fantastic performance in We Lost Elijah at the Royal. Great to see him still doing well.

OPEN DANCE AUDITIONS ANNOUNCED FOR ‘SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS’ STARRING THE X FACTOR’S LUCIE JONES AND EMMERDALE HEARTTHROB KURTIS STACEY

Enchanted Entertainment is planning a Christmas spectacular at the Deco Theatre this year and need local dancers aged 8+ to perform in ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ alongside the professional cast.

If children are interested in auditioning then they need to attend an ‘Open Audition’ at the Northampton Academy, Wellingborough Road on Saturday 6th October; with 8-10 year olds auditioning at 10.30am (registration from 10am), 11-13 year olds auditioning at 12.30pm (registration from 12pm) and 14+ year olds auditioning at 2.30pm (registration from 2pm).

It’s great to hear from some of last year’s students of the first ever Theatre Summer School! This year’s summer school didn’t surface because of location problems unfortunately. However, watch this space for next year! Hope to see you then!

Auditions for Blood Wedding being held at The Royal & Derngate

Anyone over 18 is welcome to audition. Applicants must be available for all performances, and for rehearsals one evening a week and Saturday mornings for six weeks from 2 April. Auditions will take place on Saturday 3 March at the theatre from 10am till 6pm. Those interested in auditioning should contact John Manning on [email protected] or 01604 655 784 to arrange a slot, and get a full list of rehearsal and performances dates and times. Applicants will be auditioned in groups and there is no need to prepare anything.

Blood Wedding will be performed in rotation with The Bacchae, and along with Hedda Gabler, being performed in July, the three productions make up Royal & Derngate’s Festival Of Chaos, which is being presented in Northampton as part of London 2012 Festival in celebration of the Cultural Olympiad.
