Ceasefire now.

Today, Wednesday 15th, we expect to see a parliamentary vote on the SNP motion calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This comes after Saturday saw the largest pro-Palestinian rally in London and one of the largest in our political history. Despite the former Home Secretary branding them as “hate marches”, hundreds of thousands marched peacefully through the city, and the police reported “no issues” with the protest itself.

The march brought diverse crowds from around the country, including families and children. Jewish activists continue to be at the forefront of these demonstrations despite media outlets often incorrectly conflating pro-Palestinian marches with antisemitism.

Em Hilton (co-founder of Jewish peace movement Na'amod) says “Palestinian liberation and Jewish liberation are inherently linked,” and “Jewish people will not be safe through the oppression of other people.” There are spikes in antisemitism - as well as islamophobia - throughout the country at this time, but they are overwhelmingly not at these marches.
