One of our favourite little activities with my daughter - we close our eyes, pick 5 random markers and then colour a page using only those colours! 😄 🎨

It’s such a fun surprise every time - sometimes the combinations turn out beautifully, other times… let’s just say very creative! 😅 But that’s what makes it so much fun. It’s a lovely way to laugh, get a bit messy and enjoy art without worrying about perfection.
These are our last "masterpieces" 😀 Guess which one belongs to my daughter? 😉

A parent’s love knows no bounds. We can handle a lot, but when it comes to our children, that’s where we draw the line. Protecting them is non-negotiable. 🐻

👉 Do you think parents should always step in when their child is dragged into drama, or should kids sometimes learn to handle situations on their own?

Even if you live in a big city, you probably see wildlife on a regular basis. Namely, you’re sure to run into a lot of squirrels 🐿️, even in the densest urban areas. While some people might view them as adorable, others see them as persistent pests bent on chewing on and nesting in everything in sight. Here are 9 reasons you should appreciate these savvy, amazing, bushy-tailed critters.

1. Squirrels have serious hops 🐿️
Think squirrels are all about snacking on nuts? Think again. They’re also impressive jumpers. Plantain squirrels in Singapore have been seen leaping nearly 10 feet in a single bound. Ground squirrels can cover about 8 feet, which is ten times their body length! And flying squirrels? They don’t just jump—they glide, soaring up to 295 feet through the air.

2. They’re more organized than your junk drawer 🐿️
Believe it or not, squirrels are super tidy with their food stash. For example, fox squirrels sort their snacks by type—walnuts here, pecans there—using a strategy called “spatial chunking.” They might even get picky about size. Meanwhile, most of us are still losing our car keys twice a week.

3. Forgetfulness makes them accidental forest gardeners 🐿️
Squirrels don’t always have the best memory. They bury nuts and acorns all over the place—then promptly forget where they put some of them. Those forgotten snacks often sprout into new trees, turning squirrels into some sort of reforestation heroes.

4. They’re essential for truffle survival 🐿️
It turns out squirrels play a key role in helping underground fungi like truffles spread. Since truffles don’t release spores into the air, they rely on critters like the northern flying squirrel to munch on them. Later, the squirrel’s ahem “natural recycling” spreads the spores, helping forests stay healthy and fungi thrive.

5. They can sprint down trees head-first 🐿️
Running up a tree? Easy. Running down? That’s where squirrels flex their skills. Their back ankles can twist 180°, allowing them to grip the trunk firmly as they zoom downward—something most animals can’t do.

6. They’re helping scientists tackle strokes 🐿️
Ground squirrels hibernate by lowering their body temperature to shocking levels—some as low as 26.7°F (around -3°C). During this chilly nap, their brains adapt to survive with limited blood flow. Researchers think this could inspire new treatments for stroke patients by mimicking the squirrels’ brain-protecting superpower.

7. Their tails are like built-in heaters (and weapons) 🐿️
California ground squirrels have a clever defence against rattlesnakes: they heat up their tails! By pumping extra blood into their tails, they create a visible (and infrared-detectable) threat.

8. They help scientists keep tabs on forest health 🐿️
If you want to know how well a forest is doing, just look at the squirrel population. Since they rely on healthy forests for food and shelter, a thriving squirrel community usually signals a strong, stable ecosystem.

9. Squirrels can fake you out 🐿️
Grey squirrels are surprisingly sneaky. They can engage in what's called “tactical deception,” a behaviour previously only seen in primates. When they think they're being watched by someone looking to pilfer their cache of food, they will pretend to dig a hole as if burying their acorn or nut, but tuck their snack into their mouth and go bury it elsewhere.

So, next time you see a squirrel, maybe give it a little nod of respect. After all, they’re not just furry park fixtures—they’re secret geniuses of the animal world.
