Starting off with our lovely friends and neighbours at Stranger Than Paradise in Hackney - Noreen and Marvin.

Owner Noreen McShane runs Stranger Than Paradise with long term friend Sonny and husband Marvin. Named after Jim Jarmusch’s 1984 masterpiece, Stranger Than Paradise is an Independent record store in the heart of Hackney, dedicated to sourcing a carefully curated selection of the best new releases and reissues, representative of a wide range of genres.

They will also be hosting Emma-Jean Thackray’s album launch party on the 25th April, so make sure to get a ticket while you can.

It’s week 18 of the Brownswood Care Package Playlist, and spring has well and truly sprung 🌞

It’s week 17 of the Brownswood Care Package Playlist, and the sun is finally starting to show its face again 🌞

We hope you all had a lovely weekend, basking in the toasty 14 degree heat (at least that’s what is was in London). Did you know that, on estimate, we are gaining about 25 minutes of sunlight per week?! The only way is up people.

.band - Pleasure, Joy & Happiness (musclecars remix) is out now!!
nyc have elevated the already incredible track, which was released on their latest album ‘Halfway Somewhere’, to a 90’s house extreme.

Speaking on the creation of the track, musclecars tell us; “We wanted to give this a real 90’s NYC house feel, with additional instrumentation to really bring on that euphoric sense of pleasure, joy, and happiness, that Rob & Val were singing about.”

We are also excited to announce that the next release in our Brownswood Remix Editions series will be out on 28th Feb. It will contain both the musclecars remix and the Circles Going Round The Sun remix by that was released late last year. An incredible combination if you ask us.

We had so much fun seeing and play at Margate Social Club, and it was amazing to see some blue sky. A quick delicious lunch at Sargasso before we left, after which we almost contemplated moving the office. January is finally over and it almost feels like spring is in the air 🌸

Weirdo by Emma-Jean Thackray, her second album to date, will be released via Brownswood Recordings / Parlophone Records on 25th April 2025!

Drawing on an eclectic mix of influences—grunge, pop, soul, p-funk, and jazz— “Weirdo” is a triumphant celebration of survival and individuality. Written, performed, recorded, mixed, produced, and arranged entirely by Thackray in her South London flat, the album stands as a testament to her extraordinary musicianship and fearless self-expression. The album artwork was also designed by Emma, catch the cover tracklist above.
