The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group has approved a $137 million loan to support Botswana’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The funds, extended under the Bank Group’s Botswana Economic Recovery Support Program, will be used to enact multi-sector reforms that will increase spending efficiency, create jobs and drive inclusive growth.

The African Union said on Friday 10 September, it was suspending Guinea after a coup in the West African country that saw its president Alpha Conde arrested.

The pan-African body said on Twitter that it “decides to suspend the Republic of Guinea from all AU activities and decision-making bodies”.

The move came after Guinean special forces seized power on Sunday and arrested Conde, who had come under increasing fire for perceived authoritarianism.

Kenya’s tea exports to Afghanistan have remained steady despite the recent Taliban takeover of the country.

Tea accounts for 30 percent of the East African country’s exports to Afghanistan, with statistics indicating that Kabul purchased about $18 million worth of Kenyan tea in 2020.

Edward Mudibo, the Managing Director of the East Africa Tea Trade Association (EATTA), told SAT he expects the exports to continue so long as Afghanistan’s financial services remain operational.

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange has raised concerns about the capital outflows from South Africa, which has steadily increased over the last few years.

In a written submission to parliament on Treasury’s new tax bills, the JSE said South Africa’s macro environment has deteriorated over the past five years. All three global rating agencies lowered their ratings of South Africa’s sovereign credit standing in 2020.

Head of the Libyan Atomic Energy Corporation, Wajdi Mohamed Al-Ritaimi, revealed that Libya possesses huge reserves of uranium, most of which are located in the south and east of the country, especially in the border triangle between Libya, Chad, and Sudan.

Kenya plans to raise 100 million shillings (910,000 U.S. dollars) for the conservation of the iconic elephant species, a senior government official said on Monday.

Najib Balala, cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife said that the funds will be raised from contributions during the upcoming Inaugural Magical Kenya Tembo Naming Festival.

Nigeria will work with Bitt Inc as a technical partner in its bid to launch its own cryptocurrency, the “eNaira”, the Central Bank said on Monday.

The Central Bank announced plans to launch its own digital currency later this year after Nigeria barred banks and financial institutions from dealing in or facilitating transactions in cryptocurrencies in February.
