What is trauma-informed support? 💙

Trauma-informed support means meeting young people exactly where they are: emotionally, socially, and academically. It recognises that past experiences can affect how a young person feels about learning, relationships and the world around them.

For some of the young people we support, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs mean that attending school isn’t possible right now. They may struggle to leave the house, or even their room. That’s why our approach is flexible, patient, and led by trust.

Our tutors work at each young person’s pace and on their terms. Sessions might begin online, or even with gentle conversations on either side of a door. Early activities are often interest-led rather than academic, helping build safety, confidence and connection before learning begins.

By focusing on personalised provision, mentorship, and emotional wellbeing first, we create the conditions where learning can happen naturally when the young person is ready.

Supporting Young People Back into Education

For many young people, returning to school after a period of absence can feel overwhelming. At Targeted Provision, we specialise in reintegration support, helping young people transition back into mainstream or specialist education with the tools and confidence they need to succeed.

Our approach goes beyond academics, we focus on the whole child:

✅ Emotional regulation: Supporting young people manage feelings and build resilience.
✅ Social reintegration: Supporting positive relationships with teachers and peers.
✅ Academic confidence: Re-engaging with learning in a way that feels safe.

We work collaboratively with parents, schools, and specialists to create a personalised reintegration plan tailored to each young person’s needs. Sessions are adaptable, available in person or online, and typically last 12 weeks, with adjustments made as needed.

Our trauma-informed, 1-to-1 sessions are built around trust, understanding, and support of each young person's unique needs. Our experienced tutors take the time to form strong relationships, creating a safe space where learning and emotional growth can truly happen.

We work closely with parents and carers, keeping communication open and ensuring support is personalised and meaningful. By incorporating each young person’s interests, anything from astronomy to extreme sports or even drainage systems, we help re-engage learners and build confidence that lasts beyond the classroom.

At Targeted Provision, we work in partnership with over 110 local authorities across the UK to deliver bespoke, trauma-informed education for children and young people with additional and complex needs.
