We have been investigating animal footprints in the snow. We think we have dog, cat and fox prints.
Info for yesterday afternoons group, this is where you can currently get a lot of outdoor gear at 50% off RRP. I’ll post in the comments below the items which we’ve purchased and are extremely happy with x
Hello, I have sent a couple of messages on messenger but I don't think they are reaching you. Please can you send me a message with your email or phone number please. Thanks 👍
Please don't think you need a BBQ to say to others you've had a good time whilst you're on your walk in the sunshine. A sarnie and a bag of crisps is good enough whilst you're out and about.

Wait to enjoy your charred sausages until you are home and don't rely on "someone else" to clear up after you, many people who look after the parks are furloughed and in any case your litter is your responsibility.

The ground is dry and acts like tinder to those flying sparks. We don't need to see fires burning again this year for weeks and it would be a crying shame to see our countryside closed to many, for the carelessness of a few cheap shots.

Watch this video carefully.

Each tree is an individual, standing one among many. Close together yet not touching. These trees are physically distanced and socially connected and that is the language we have used at Greenwood and in our home since this began.

When we return to the woods we will take every effort to (re)build strong social connection and help people stay well. We will, of course, observe sensible physical distance.

Lovely morning continuing to develop #WomenofWoods with #BeReiki in Grin Low. Brilliant turn out given the weather, which forced us into contingency mode making use of the indoors and low-level areas of Grin Low Woods.

Skills development. Community. Creation. Process. Movement. Mediation. Strength. Laughter. Immersion in the natural world at its wildest.

Thank you #poolescavern for looking after us, as always.
Really sorry but Im not going to make it today. Its a long drive to Buxton in this weather. Could I transfer it to another date as i'd love to see you again in the woods.

Today was beautiful. It was raining but the kind of rain that gently drips off trees and makes a beautiful sound as it hits the leaves on the ground. Eliza found some shield bugs and Myles brought a worm and for a long time they sat with Lorna watching and talking about the tiny details whilst others joined to see what was so very interesting.
Eliza played with her friend James in the mud for a while as we parents watched through the trees not wanting to interrupt. It was lovely to sit and chat and make while the children went off on an adventure with Lorna. They made fishing rods and talked about floating and sinking fish. Later we played a game of vanish following tracks in the leaves. At the very end of the session this small group, confident in each others company began to make music, they tapped their sticks listening to the different sounds and after saying good bye Eliza and I walked home, she ran ahead finding lots of new sounds on her way. Shes now 'floating' in the bath finding which of her toys sink. Inspired.
This one is for mums who like to create. Wreaths, decorations, tiny pine trees...whatever you feel like. Mince pies a-plenty.
A very peaceful gathering, creating small ripples leading to larger waves...
"...we are biological beings", thank you Sarah Blackwell for speaking on this.
We came along for a taster session at Tegg’s Nose recently and my kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you Lorna for being so welcoming! We shall definitely be back 😊

Happy birthday to fellow Director and brilliant friend, Caroline. When Caroline isn't laughing her hat off in a wheelbarrow she keeps on top of our antics @greenwoodcic, mostly.

All words begin somewhere, they have a first use and acquire meaning over time. Words link us to place, to each other, to the streets we walk through, the towns and cities we live in and the parks, playing fields, pitches and forests in which we play. Sometimes there isn't a word to help and perhaps we make a new one. Othertimes a word comes that has never been spoken and we give it meaning later when is rolled around our tongue and across our teeth a while. Often we use a sound when a word isn't there where we need it or it is too difficult to speak. Words fascinate me. If any week has served as a reminder that we communicate in more ways than words can provide it has been this one.

This week I have communicated in nonsense, in sounds, in actions, in song, in drumming, in pictures, in being. It is all language. None of it has needed a name. All of it enabled communication.

If you go down to the woods @teggsnose you may discover medallions hanging from oaks. Our young people have identified and named #oak trees. We plan to measure leaves, inputting to a project connected to the #piedflycatcher a migratory bird arriving from Africa.

It’s been a creative day with our babies and toddlers today at Grin Low! Making journey boards with natural treasures on the walk to base camp, using the natural environment as a colour pallet to create beautiful ‘Hapa Zome’ as well as the usual swinging, climbing, hiding and exploring. ‘Katie’s Kalimba’ also made it’s debut, signaling our ‘story around the fire’ time. Until next week, little Forest Friends! 📖 🔥 🐛 🍃 🐞 🍁

Today was all about #trajectory and #travel: up, over, along, back and forth for our home ed groups today and Grin Low offers it all in abundance with open paths, kiln edges, logs and stumps and endless opportunities to challenge self and each other again and more and more and again. We made pens, wrote stories and told them and, somehow, made garlic butter from scratch for toast at session close. Did I mention the glockenspiel we built, wedges cut, cart rides.... A wonderful day #greenwoodfamilies sleep well (I will).

A day filled with discovery. The great crested newts were out in abundance along with tadpoles, snails, pond skaters and lots of other creatures and one frog watching us suspiciously from the pond grass. We were careful not to disturb any of these wonderful creatures especially the protected newts.

From a parent today "Her day with you on a Monday is definitely her happy place and it's so lovely to see" 😊

A Wife and a Mistress: The Pied Flycatcher Bird | BBC Studios

The Pied Flycatcher reveals much about the impact of changing climate on our globe and what happens when the food sources it relies on are no longer available on its migratory path.
This, and other stories, are set to unravel in the strangely dry woods this week.

Over the last 12 months Greenwood Growth has thrived and much of what we have achieved is down to the trust, belief, kindness and investment of our volunteers, team, land owners, supporters, clients, schools and members of the public cheering us on from the sidelines. If you are one of these people or wish to find out more about who we are and what we do you are invited to join our AGM. We have decided to host this via Zoom to enable as many people to join as wish to. Please register your interest via Bookwhen, details in our events listings.

A busy day Tegg's Nose Country Park today with our home educated young people. We marked our third year in Site Samauri with candles atop Tunnocks (proper posh, we are) and discovered at least six of the 240 varieties of Dandelion. We had to look very closely to discover the difference and in the process found a pheasant feather and dead shrew. The group veto'd fritters in favour of Jaffer Cakes, hmm. In the afternoon we bid a fond farewell to a beautiful family moving to pastures new and welcomed some familiar faces back for the ride. Whilst searching, (with less success) for Dandelion, treasure once held on to by the underland was gifted for our observations. When a badger dies in its sett their Chamber is often sealed by its kin, who then go and live elsewhere for a while, or in a different part of the sett if it's a big one sometimes sharing with mice, voles, foxes even. Once a few years have passed they return and in the process of digging out the old set clean bones may be found around the mouth to the sett. Amazing that this can go on for generations with some setts active for hundreds of years. One we'd all calmed down a bit it was time to build, create, tend the fire, whittle, play and have FUN. Everyone was a little reluctant to leave and I can't blame them really.

Wonderful wands and flying feathers...just a few of the lovely things our babies and toddlers explored today at Grinlow. Our fireside story was all about Lucy the Ladybird and how our differences are what make us beautiful; and would you believe it, Lucy Ladybird herself made an appearance just as our story was ending! 🐞 🐞 🐞

Four years ago I decided to do something positive in my tiny corner of the universe that brought children, and their families, closer to their natural world. Three years ago I met Julie. One year ago Greenwood became a CIC and today she led that small business into the woods with Flying High to deliver our first full day home ed programme. I'm proud of it all and most proud of the team of creative, bold, honest people I work with every day. There are spaces on this programme which has strong links with RSPB conservation work. Get in touch to find out more.

Today saw the first of our full day, home ed sessions at RSPB Coombes Valley and Consall Woods with Flying High Outdoor Nursery, Leek. Our small group spent most of the day getting to know their space and the surrounding areas. What began as a short walk became an adventure, stumbling upon a well used deer track we followed it until we came to a wire fence which the whole herd jump every day! Next the river called where we found Wood Anemone, Bluebells and sticks that went the wrong way UP the river! I'm looking forward to seeing where this bunch will take us next week!

There are still spaces available in this group. Please get in touch for more details.

Simply put, we believe in the power of the forest to help people connect, discover their best and feel well.

Human beings are inherently social creatures. As far back as history can trace, we have existed in social groups and when we are separated from our tribe there are usually serious consequences. Belonging to a social group gives us a sense of identity; we need meaningful connections with others.

· Friendship creates a feeling of belonging, purpose, increased happiness, self-worth and confidence.

· Time together in the natural world restores strained relationships and helps people to feel understood.

· Being physically active, together, alleviates depression and anxiety symptoms and decreases feelings of loneliness.
