📵Using a handheld mobile phone while driving is illegal in the UK.

The penalties for using a mobile phone while driving are severe. Here's a summary of the fines and points for different scenarios:

First Offense: £200 fine and 6 penalty points on your driving license.

Repeat Offense: £1,000 fine and 6 penalty points on your driving license.

New Drivers: 6 penalty points within two years of passing your test results in losing your license.

When taking the first exit to the left, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise:

👈 signal left and approach in the left-hand lane
👈 keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave

When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

👉 signal right and approach in the right-hand lane
👉 keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout
👈 signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

👆 select the appropriate lane on approach to the roundabout
👆 you should not normally need to signal on approach
👆 stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout

When there are more than three lanes at the entrance to a roundabout, use the most appropriate lane on approach and pay attention to road markings and signs.

Every instructor knows the moment a pupil passes their test is a proud one. But removing the L plates does not mean the learning stops. The habits built during lessons often stay with drivers for years to come. Helping pupils understand that checking air pressure, condition and tread once a month is part of responsible driving can make a real difference. Tyre safety is not just for the driving test, it is for every journey they make afterwards.

You may not have known that the Highway Code applies to pedestrians as well? Whether you're at a junction, zebra crossing or anywhere else, these simple steps can help keep you and others around you, safe:

🚶 Find a safe place to cross where you can see clearly in all directions. Use a crossing if there's one nearby.

🚶 Stop at the kerb and look all around for traffic. Listen too – you can often hear vehicles before you see them.

🚶 Wait for a safe gap. If traffic is coming, let it pass, then look and listen again.

🚶 When it's safe, walk straight across. Keep looking and listening as you cross, and watch for cyclists moving between lanes. Avoid crossing between parked cars, on bends or near the top of a hill where drivers can't see you.

🐴Regardless of the speed limit of a road, when you see a horse and rider (or horse and carriage) using the road, please:
🐴
• Slow down to 10mph (and be prepared to stop)
• Keep well back
• Never rev your vehicle's engine
• Pass slow and leave a 2m gap, but only when it's safe to do so.

Brighter days are here, and that could mean more people out walking, cycling or riding 🚴🚶🏍️
