Look at this beauty.

Let me introduce to you The Euro Pleat.

I do love a Euro pleat, its simple, elegant, modern and facilitates a good neat rounded fold below. A definite contender to go head to head with the tradition pinch pleat headings.

I think it works really nicely here with the simplicity of an unlined voile in an easy care linen mix.

What do you guys think, is the Euro a winner or contender?

It's not always whole houses and large scale projects that I take on. I enjoy serving my local villages whatever their bespoke soft furnishing needs.

I enjoy meeting people, seeing the variety of country and modern homes we have in our area and finding the right design solution for each and every client.

I am blessed to have so many lovely clients who all enjoy renovating their homes. Some are in the process of re decorating a room, some redesign whole areas of their houses, others move in to a new build where all the windows in the house need to be finished with and then some call me to replace something that has seen better days and needs to be in keeping with what's in the room already.

This was a project where 2 door curtains needed replacing, equally to keep the drafts out as that it was time for them to be replaced esthetically. The brief was to fine a similar fabric in colour to the original but find a fabric with a little light reflective quality to brighten a dark hallway. We found a hard wearing synthetic fabric which had a touch of light refection in the yarn and then teamed it with a heavy interliner and a quality lining for maximum warmth. The bespoke element was a curved heading and return to neatly finish around the uneven shaped beam.

I come across a lot of old and beautiful beamed houses on my travels and will always work to compliment the beauty of the old traditional craftsmanship.

The majority of our loose cover work is for plain lounge sofas and 3 piece suites, so when this client came to me to ask if she could put this cotton printed fabric on her bedroom chair, it was a fun project to do.

In reality, the fabric is thin for hard wear. However, this was discussed with the client and it was decided that as the chair is not sat on it would be ok in this instance.

The chair is of sentimental value and the fabric has been waiting in the attic waiting for the perfect use. Here is the result, a fun colour pop of green piping finishes the look.

Loose cover work is a little like bespoke dress making. The pattern is cut in reverse using the finished fabric, all pinned in place and then taken away to be sewn off site. We then come back for the fitting. Ta da!

People ask me what the pros of loose covers are:

▪️ Loose covers can be washable
▪️ We do not need to remove your furniture from your home to get the job done
▪️ They can be easily changed when you change the rooms colour scheme
▪️ You can prolong the life of your existing piece of furniture by giving it a fresh new look time and time again
▪️ In a throw away society, it is an environmentally conscious decision not to add more furniture to landfill.

Need new seat and back cushion inners too? No problemo, we can get these made at the same time.

It seems the tropical theme is set to continue at HPF! Here we have a riot of colour and design in these cushions.

9 cushions, 3 designs, piped and Oxford edged.

These have gone to a retired interior designers home, every room of which, is filled with colour, pattern and is curated exquisitely!

It's a real treat to see bold use of colour executed so well.... a fellow textile addict indeed!

I'm just looking back on this cushion design from a few months back.

The beauty of bespoke soft furnishings is the complimenting fabrics and trimmings can be hand selected to achieve a perfect fit for the customer.

Texture, style, colour and form all play a part in the design of a cushion.

There are 1000's of trimmings and plain fabrics to compliment your chosen feature fabric.

The design process is all about getting the mix right!

Photos from Helen Puxley Furnishings's post 24/03/2022

And here it is!

The tropics have found their way to Henfield in this 'Calamine' Farrow and Ball painted bathroom.

The colour palette creates a calm and warm space to bathe.

While the fabric design brings a little fun.

I'm a little besotted with these giant pom-poms. you can only gauge the size of them when you compare them to the size of my hand. They are going on the leading edge of a set of curtains that are making their way to France.... More pictures to follow

The new colour combinations of earthy tones coming through at the moment are a way of getting colour into your home without it being too overpowering, The earth palette seems to gently settle in a home with lots of natural materials. Colours of terracotta, pebble greys and sand remind me of the coast and hot mountain destinations.

How about you?

These dreamy laundered linen wave voiles, finish this garden room beautifully.

The relaxed nature of the laundered linen weave with its slub and natural creases is not for all customers, however, I personally love this look which suits both the older style properties as well as the new.

It is all about finding your personal style and what works for you.

The design meetings we have do facilitate these decisions. I can take you through the options, explain how a fabric will look in different heading styles and how it will drape. Thats the beauty of bespoke curtains!

Watch out for the next video post to see these beauties in action!

A making post today.........Another day another Roman blind.

A Roman blind is a piece of soft furnishings that needs to be made with the upmost of accuracy to get a crisp sharp finish. It is also a very satisfying process where multiple accurate steps need to be performed to get a quality outcome.

A mix of hand sewing and machine sewing goes into the making process which makes for an enjoyable day of sewing.

Photos from Helen Puxley Furnishings's post 28/02/2022

This post demonstrates the differences between a London blind and a Roman blind.

Which would get your vote?

Relaxed with its draped centre, when pulled up there is a longer drop giving more coverage to the window. This style is good for tall windows or where privacy is required.

It is perfect for rooms where you don't use the blind on a daily basis as requires dressing when pulled up. Or is suitable for a window where you want to create a little vintage opulence or drama but where curtains are not suitable. Best on the outside of a window

Classic in style, relaxed but orderly in its straight folds. A design that can have cascade folds to show off the fabric and create interest or straight folds that pulls up to a tight drop to ensure maximum light when not covering the window. A versatile and design classic. works well both inside and outside the window recess.

Classic and elegant, another timeless Soane Britain scheme for this Regency apartment in Hove.

The simplicity of a ribbed woven stripe fabric works well for both the window seat cushion and roman blind with elegant piped Albarello design cushions to dress the space.

The Soane Fabric design of the cushions designed by Sophie Coryndon derives from Moorish earthenware. Albarello jars were used for medicines & ointments and became popular in Italy in 15th Century.

This Simple delicate design is joyful and uplifting with its music sheet/ calligraphic style.

❤️ Happy Valentines Day ❤️

To celebrate we have more William Morris on the table today. This time to make a pair of window seat bench cushions.

Our bench cushions have polyester and netting covered foams inside. These coverings ensure a nice plump look but also protect the inner foam from deterioration so that they last longer.

The price of foam has increased so its important for both the environment and the longevity of your bench cushion to add this layering.

Which all adds to the bespoke quality soft furnishings service.

Have a lovely day.

What a divine and relaxing space this bedroom has become.

With it's pared-down white colour palette, cottage style headed curtains and powder coated painted pole set.

A Bedroom is a sacred place that should create a calm space for rest and rejuvenation so that we are ready for the next day ahead.

I feel this scheme does that in bucket fulls!

As we approach Valentines Day I thought I would post these William Morris lovebirds!

A very special wedding gift for a newly wed couple.

These cushions are a little touch of luxury with their silk fl**ge fringe and May Morris (William Morris's Daughter) woven fabric.

A perfect personalised gift from Father to Daughter to celebrate love.

I have to admit that I secretly wanted to keep these, they really were divine!

WOW! Oh the joy of this Soane Britain Fern Frond.

Here we have a simple pair of single pinch blackout curtains teamed with a Cameron Fuller Limited thin metal pole to get maximum height and coverage for this London Guest bedroom

The print design is an interpretation of a tiny motif found in an 1820's French pattern book. This is printed in 2 colours to add depth to the large scale pattern.

What an impact it makes when both wallpaper and fabric is used in tandem.

This is a little piece of heaven. Wouldn't you agree?

This pretty bluebell London blind makes me think of all things Spring.

Doesn't it work well in this oak beamed cottage. The London blind is a relaxed design. A version of the Roman blind but with a relaxed centre that drapes down, making relaxed folds which do need dressing in every time it's raised.

The overall look is pretty and divine.

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the first bluebells of the year!

Christmas Preparations

It's been 3 months of busy business at HPF, so apologies for the lack of posts for a while, Christmas is nearly here and this winter break is always a very welcome rest after the Autumn madness!

This week it's time for me to get the tree up, the decorations out and some more shopping & planning underway. With only 4 more jobs to complete before we finish on the 22nd, we are now on the home straight at last.

I hope your Christmas's preparations are going well and you are beginning to feel a little festive too.

The contemporary earthy colours of this KOBE brown and grey fabric work fabulously in this stylish Country home.

The paint drop design of the fabric compliments the arches in the original art beautifully. And the slight sheen in the fabric threads makes for a luxe and serene window treatment for this guest room.

For me, browns are under used. I have always loved brown and it has become very on trend this last year so I'm delighted I can work with it more.

Be brave & consider brown in your soft furnishings. It's one of the leading new neutrals and used with grey adds further depth and interest but remains quite an easy interior palette.

Can short curtains be Chic?

The dilemma between short and long curtains comes up a lot when there is a radiator under the window.

Client: "Will short curtains look ok?"

My reply: "short curtains can definitely look cool. The key to success is choosing the right combination of style of heading, type of pole or track and a winning fabric that creates the wow factor. Each room is different and coming up with the right scheme for each individual window treatment is one of my favourite parts of my job.

A little more on textures today.

Demonstrated here by how different the characteristics are in these similar neutral coloured fabrics.

Texture brings so much interest to a fabric, there's the sheens of silk & metallic, the natural qualities and softness of wools, cottons and linens.

And to add further interest how the fabric is woven creates another layer of texture as does embroidery.

Oh the possibilities are endless!

I'm working on a cushion scheme this morning.

The colour palette on the window treatments will be ink blue with contrast stone detailing.

The client has asked for pops of orange and red in country or Orla Keily inspired prints.

We will team these prints with luxe velvet complimenting cushions and pipings.

Two options for schemes are shown here but more to do so I will post the end result on a later post.

What fun these roman blinds are.

I remember as a young teenager having my room decorated and being able to choose my own wallpaper and curtains for the first time.

It's exciting being able to design of your environment and is one of the enjoyable steps to independence!

If only we had had the more exciting options that are available today.

I loved my small scale 80's peach floral scheme at the time but would have been spoilt for choice had I grown up in 2021!

Well done to my clients daughter who chose this fun and very stylish jungle fabrics. A great choice for a cool and stylish young lady!

A warm welcome to my new followers, thank you for taking the time to like my pages.

I hope you are enjoying the content as much as I enjoy taking the time to take the pictures of all your beautiful soft furnishings.

I haven't posted an introduction email for a long time so thought I would say a quick "Hello" to all you new followers and tell you a little more about me.

I got into Soft furnishings in 2012 after always having a passion for textiles, pattern, screenprint, and hand sewing. I trained for 2 years in upholstery but moved into soft furnishings in 2014 and consolidated my training with a AMUSF soft furnishings course where I obtained a distinction pass.

I worked in fashion, event production and graphic design previously, all of which helped hone the skillset required for soft furnishings. Being a soft furnisher is a multi-faceted role, with design, project management, product knowledge and making skills, playing equal roles in ensuring a successful outcome.

My inspiration to move from fashion came from a lightbulb moment while having a meeting in The Haymarket Hotel's iconic conservatory area, designed by Kit Kemp and featuring the stunning @christopherfarrcloth Carnival fabric.

If you have not had a peak at the @FirmdaleHotels designed by Kit Kemp, please take a look, Kit's use of colour, texture and print is joyful, bold and inspirational!

I thoroughly enjoy my work and its a privilege to work in so many of your beautiful Sussex homes.

When I'm not working, my other happy place is the beach, where you will often find me on a paddle board, running on the seafront or waiting for waves. Come summer or winter, the beauty of the sea and the sunsets never fail to disappoint. My perfect end to a busy week!

If there's anything thing you would like to see in my future social posts, please drop me a line or share on here, would love to hear from you!
