Another fantastic Scout night with Cheshire Scuba Academy and Gorse Covert Scout Group, some of which took to Scuba like the proverbial duck to water. Well done everyone, we hope you had a fantastic time and look forward to maybe seeing some of you for your PADI Open Water qualification.
Meet the new team! Cheshire Scuba Academy has a small but dedicated team for safe, enjoyable and fun Scuba diving with Derek Howden as Instructor/Owner, Richard Burke, Jack Sloan and now Stephen Bennett as PADI Divemasters.
Whoop! Whoop! Triple Celebrations this weekend for Cheshire Scuba Academy! A glorious weekend at sunny Capernwray with Megan Sims achieving her PADI Open water qualification, Louise O'Hanlon becoming a PADI advanced Open Water diver and Stephen Bennett at long last become a PADI dive professional and attaining a Dive Master qualification. All well deserved. Well done everyone!!!
A great weekend at Capernwray, fun, laughs and fantastic achievments. Congratulations to Megan Sims for becoming a PADI Open Water diver and to Louise O'Hanlon for completing her PADI Advanced Open Water, well done to you both👏👏👏
Many thanks to my team, without them I wouldn't be writing this post...Jack Sloan, Richard Burke, Stephen Bennett, Paul Heath for assisting and Dave Sloan for the photos/video which I'm sure will follow.
Biggest achievment and congratulations though go to Stephen Bennett. His dedication to Cheshire Scuba Academy and hard work is second to none and today I have the huge pleasure of signing him off his course, he can now send off his paperwork to officially become a PADI Divemaster, massive pat on the back, well deserved and earned 🤜🤛👏👏👏👏
Openwater students last night, session 2 for some and 3 for others.
Only a few clubs members in for some reason… must all be City fans..😢
A great night at the pool with the 22nd Warrington East Scout Group paying us a visit and having a go at Scuba for the first time. A great time had by all and hopefully some budding divers here for the future. Just hope I didn't miss anyone out! 👌👌👌😎
Busy again!! 13 in tonight.
Gary starting his open water pool sessions tonight and Claire finishing her pool sessions, Capernwray next.
Also Alex continuing his Dive master training.
Club members also enjoying the pool.
Great night at the pool, with swimmers, divers and snorkellers ranging in age from 12 to 80+ ~ On the menu tonight, Open Water Students, Trainee Divemasters and a Rescue Course. everyone having a great time apart from from Rich ("The drowning diver") who was well truly tested to the limit!
Farne Island.
Hands up who fancy’s diving with the seals!!!!
We have the opportunity to organize a trip in June…Friday 17th to Sunday 19th.
This trip was very popular last time and filled within hours!!
Travel up on the Friday and stay over 2 nights B&B in The Old School house.
2 dives off the hard boat( with a lift!!) Saturday and Sunday.
Depths are usually 4m - 15m, so nothing difficult, loads of sea life and the possibility of the seals coming in close( not guaranteed!!)
Visibility is usually 6-8m and water temperature would be around 12-14 deg.
Air is supplied by Sovereign Divers, cost last time was £5 a fill.
Then drive home later Sunday afternoon.
There may be the possibility of booking the Sunday night if you prefer to stay over.
Rooms are shared, couples in doubles, other rooms are either twins or 3 or 4, depending on who’s going.
Cost for 10 on the boat(gives you more space!) is £230.00. This is for the boat and B&B
Evening meals are either the Links Hotel( great food) or one of the other local pubs or even the Indian restaurant( just think about your diving the next day when you order!!)
Anyone who fancy’s it get in touch with Derek……
Deposits will secure your place, there will be a you say you pay, you will need to pay the full amount if you change your mind or can’t go, unless we can fill the place with another diver.
Another of my favourite species, the Stingray, inquisitive and friendly along with the Moray Eel and shyer cousin the Eagle Ray an another amazing set of creatures to share some underwater time with. 👌😎🥰
Well done to Beth and Yasmin on completing their PADI Open Water course over the weekend in less than favourable conditions. With Blizzards, Rain, gales, horizontal rain and sub zero temps and a little bit of sun it was a mixed bag but the students “sucked it up” and flew through their final 4 dives and associated skills with no problems. Well deserved. 👏👏👌😎
Derek Howden Richard Burke Stephen Bennett Paul Heath Beth Atherton and Yasmin Lloyd
February Pool night with Yasmine and Beth nearing the end of their PADI open water qualifications along with the usual club divers and swimmists. See you two at Capernwray with the fishes soon!! 👌👌👌

Last pool session of the year and a limited turnout due tothe various festivities going on. Yasmine and Jack doing all the work and the rest of us just messing about in the pool. Someone needs to have a word with Adrian and get his trim issues sorted! Richard Burke Derek Howden Jack Sloan Luke Bellerby Ste Ashton Stephen Bennett Yasmine Lloyd Simon and Sophie Brown. All the best to everyone have a great Christmas and a fantastic New Year🤿🎊🎉🥂🍻👌👍 and if we're lucky 🇲🇻
Well done to Oscar, Thomas and his Dad Simon, for completing there PADI Open Water course and refresher over the weekend. A bitterly cold Northerly meant that the land temperature was well below zero on the Saturday, so much so that it’s the first time I’ve got into the quarry in late November and seen my cylinder pressure increase! And just to rub salt in the wound the students were then faced with a good covering of snow on the Sunday! The certifications were well and truly deserved, after all if you dive in these conditions you can dive in any condition. Well done again. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks to Adrian Bridge for sharing his video clips from a recent trip to the Red Sea where he was lucky to enough to bump into some of the resident Dolphins and a group of Hammerheads. Amazing!!
Well done to Fiona on passing her PADi Open Water diving course, and as requested plenty of fishy action. Top Effort!! 👌👌👌
A great day up at Capernwray, with good company and good viz. Derek Howden Sharon Melvein Chris Callaghan John Threlfall Louise O'Hanlon Paul Melvein and Keith
Brilliant night at the pool with all manner of things going on. Apologys for the video quality thanks to someone (no names mentioned! Me ☹️) for putting a big thumbprint on the camera lense. Thanks to all the the Students, DM's, Clubbers and Derek for making it happen. 👌👌👌
Exceptionally busy night at the pool last night, with 28 Trainees, instructors and club members joining in with the fun.
A good weekend up at St Abbs with Derek and Steve, nice weather, good Viz which had to be getting on for 15/20 metres at times and a great skipper. Cheers to Bryn for making it possible and to Matt for the info. 4 dives done and we managed to do the Glanmire, unfortunately a bit too dark for the GoPro but loads of fish there (honest!) ~ just need to go back and find some of them elusive Wolf fish. 😎
Pretty busy night at the pool, from Discover Scubas through various stages of Open Water all the way to trainee divemasters all washed down down with a pint of cooking and a bag of nuts in the local hostelry ~ Magic our Morris!! 👍👍
Warrington Disability Awareness Day 2021. Despite being a bit damp at times it turned out to be great day with a good turnout and lots of youngsters having a go at Scuba diving for the first time and all thoroughly enjoying themselves whilst raising money for DAD 2021. Another great weekend at sunny Capernwray, with Louise, Krystian and Steve passing their PADI Open Water course with flying colours. With the 4 dives being 2 at 60 mins, one at 54 and the other at 40 plus minutes and depths to 17 metres you know that the students are not only flying up that steep learning curve but having a great time as well. Well done Guys and Gal!
Another great weekend up at Capernwray. A great set of students who tried hard and passed their PADI Open Water Course with flying colours. Well done Gavin, Chris and Heather~May. Disclaimer ~ No Road Signs were harmed in the making of this Video.😁

A bit damp up at Capernwray over the weekend, but a great effort from Julie and Clive on smashing their PADI OW course, with Paul Heath, Derek Howden and Jack Sloan. Well Done!!
Unique to Cheshire Academy, Introducing the "Bubblering" speciality! A valiant effort by all three students with Chris on the far left smashing the excersise with a display of Level 2 ( Budding Bubbler) in Bubble ring mastery, whilst I'm afraid Chris in the middle and Heather May way down the listings at Level 5 (Duck Fart Bubbler) ~ Seriously though it's great to have students that are are as puddled as the rest of us, Well done everyone 👐👐👐👐👐
Another busy night in the pool, at least it’s nice and cool!!!!
Open water 5, open water 3, divemaster training, club divers and even the swimmers have a nice cool down!!
Good day up at Capers with Luke, Derek, Chris and Bryn. Viz at one end pristine and murky at the other.
With swimming pools finally allowed to open for group events, it's been great to get the students back in, some new starters and some finishing off after starting before C-19
