Creating radical change in the classroom through transformative professional development for teachers
Day 3 of the 2026 Teaching With Improvisation Summer Institute invited Fellows to dig into the research behind improvisation in education and the results are compelling. Together, we explored how improvisation supports problem-solving, strengthens classroom community, fosters inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments, and creates space for every student to engage as a thinker, collaborator, and creator.
Grounded in research and brought to life through experience, today’s learning affirmed what we know to be true: when students are invited into authentic engagement, curiosity thrives.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued generosity and support of . Thank you again for providing an ins[PIE]red lunch for our 26-27 Teaching with Improvisation Fellows!
Productive struggle was in full swing today as our Fellows stretched their thinking through mental math, explored metacognition through play, and engaged in physical learning experiences designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding.
By stepping outside our comfort zones, we experienced firsthand what authentic engagement feels like and why it matters for students. When teachers learn with joy, curiosity, and purpose, powerful learning happens.
Day 1 of the 2026-2027 Teaching with Improvisation Fellowship Institute is in the books, and one thing is clear: joy is at the center of learning.
When asked to describe today’s experience, teachers shared words like amazing, joyful, and invigorating. Through collaboration, curiosity, and improvisation, educators spent the day reimagining what’s possible in the classroom—and this is only the beginning.
We’re excited to continue learning together throughout the week.
Day 1 of the 31st Teaching with Improvisation Fellowship Institute is in the books! 🎉 We danced, laughed, and leaned into our curiosity for an amazing day of learning.

This week marks the beginning of the 2026-2027 Teaching with Improvisation Fellowship. Dozens of teachers from schools across Washington, DC, representing every grade and subject area, will gather at the Inspired Teaching Demonstration School for an in-depth exploration of the Inspired Teaching Approach. They’ll come away from this time with the foundations of an mindset, rich connections to their colleagues, and new tools for authentically engaging their students.
And as the Inspired Teaching team prepares to kick off the next school year of building community and supporting the educators in our community, we are sharing an issue of Hooray For Monday from he beginning of the 2024-2025 Fellowship year. In addition to reflecting on the many teachers I met then who remain an integral part of the Inspired Teaching community, this issue is also a wonderful reminder of why we do this work.

Your school doesn't need a perfect AI policy — it needs an honest conversation. 💬
After 30 years of teaching teachers how to engage students in meaningful dialogue, Aleta Margolis, founder of the Center for Inspired Teaching, says the most powerful thing educators can do right now is simply talk about AI. Not ban it. Not blindly adopt it. Talk about it.
New research shows only 1 in 3 students say their school has a school-wide AI policy, and 67% believe heavy AI use will hurt their critical thinking. So what do we do?
Margolis shares the exact questions to start these conversations, with your students and your colleagues, and why aligning your AI policy with your school's core values is the real work.
