“I want to give up but I just want a magic pill.”

There isn’t a magic stop smoking pill but do you know that with the right support, you are 3 times more likely to quit smoking for good?

Do you know there is free help out there to support you to stop?

Please share your thoughts about smoking with us, whether you are considering stopping smoking or not, and the barriers to stopping. We also provide information in the survey about the free support that is available.

Please complete our survey: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/LumStoppingSmoking2025-26/

These words, sent to us by a carer we met, really show the importance of Building Carer Friendly Communities (the theme for this year’s ):
“Thank you so much for your time the other day, and talking to me during the break when you could have been eating biscuits! You were so helpful and made me feel a whole lot better and less guilty about my thoughts relating to my dad. The links you sent through are great, as I didn't realise there was so much information out there that I could access. I really struggled with dad's diagnosis initially, as the consultant told him he had dementia and then discharged him, with no further information or signposting, so having people and organisations like yourself is great…Being given permission to just "be" is a revelation! 😀.”

We’ve had a great getting out and about to various venues and meeting with carers as well as working alongside other colleagues.

Please continue to share your experiences with us. We use the personal experiences and feedback we collect from carers as evidence to show how well the needs of this community are being met and how services can be further improved.

This video highlights the impact of some of our work.

Our Shoes training- for professionals 11/06/2026

Our Shoes have released a video about their training, which is shaped and led by young people. This Week is all about building carer friendly communities and this training is an opportunity to understand more about the lives of young carers. We know from our work that many young carers go unnoticed in our communities and so we were particularly delighted to be involved with this video and to share it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzCfk7XzJVI

Our Giving Carers a Voice team are working with our Healthwatch Surrey team to champion the voice of local carers regarding GP practices. Your experiences could really help us to do this.

Are you an unpaid carer?
Do you speak to the GP practice of the person you care for on their behalf?
What challenges do you face?
How well supported do you feel?
And what could make it better?

If you care for someone who couldn’t manage without your help – then you are a carer.

You can complete our short survey online: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/t/CarersExperiencesGPPracticesHwSy2026/

Today is the start of – with this year’s theme being ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’. Our Giving Carers a Voice team listen to carers of all ages and highlight their experiences in Surrey to ensure their voices are heard in the design and delivery of services.
This week the team are taking part in:
• Carers trust webinar about supporting young carers in schools
• East Surrey College, post 16 transition event
• Memory Café, Dementia Group, Oxted
• Howard of Effingham School, Celebration of young carers

If you’re not at these events – we’d still love to hear your experiences:
• What support have you received from your local community?
• Has a local group, neighbour, employer, school, GP surgery, pharmacy, faith group or community organisation made a difference to your caring role?
• What has helped you feel recognised, supported and included as a carer?
Your experiences can help us celebrate what works well and highlight where more support is needed.
Together, we can help build communities where carers feel seen, valued and supported. 💙
