Printmaker inspired by hedgerows, “weeds”, how we and the organisms we live alongside interact and shape the environment. Getting down and dirty with the bugs.

My creative process involves gathering samples, researching an environment and ecology.

Playtime......

**Inspired by Grayson Perry – Create Your Own Print!**

Following the hugely inspiring Grayson Perry exhibition at RAMM, we’re excited to offer a very special photo-etching weekend at Double Elephant!

‘Maps of Ourselves’ – a Grayson Perry-inspired Photo Etching Workshop:

📅 Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May 2026
⏰ 10am – 4pm (both days)
📍 Downstairs Studio at Exeter Phoenix

Led by expert intaglio printmaker Lynn Bailey, this weekend workshop invites you to explore the rich, layered world of photo etching—combining hand-drawn imagery with photographic and collage elements to create beautifully personal prints.

Taking inspiration from the striking photo-etched maps in Perry’s Aspects of Myself exhibition, you’ll have the chance to design your own creative “map” using your own images and ideas—or simply enjoy learning this fascinating technique.

Perfect for all levels – whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced printmaker.

What you’ll explore:
– A non-toxic photo etching process pioneered by Keith Howard
– Working with light-sensitive photo polymer plates
– Combining drawing, photography, and found materials into one print
– Creating unique, expressive layered imagery

👉 Come along, get inspired, and create something truly personal.

Making the most of a bright morning by taking a shed-load of photographs. All of these need listing (or relisting) in my Etsy shop. Some of these are from the last couple of their edition.
Um - think this is going to take a while......

By popular requests we had an additional Exploring Intaglio session yesterday. People had finished last term with a desire for more. Next 5 week term is due to start 2nd June at
Meanwhile, we'll be starting the Introduction to Printmaking 5 week 21st April. Book NOW before it's too late!!.
Good way to get started or refreshed.

The work on progress picture shows my Intaglio students trying out mezzotint for the first time, working on an etching and which type of Chine cole tissue she'd like, a collagraph experimenting with stencils and a Drypoint with blended colours.

Would you like to take your first (baby elephant 🐘) steps in printmaking?
Or perhaps you need a refresher, boost, kick-start, or try out some different print processes than your usual.
The 5 week Intro to printmaking is a great way to get the ball rolling. 1st week we look at the options and get familiarised with printmaking through spontaneous, freeform moorings. We then decide together which processes we'll cover in which week. Relief print and intaglio covered through collagraph, linocut and drypoint.
Starting soon - 21st April.
Please share with your friend, and see you soon.

Super quick aluminium saline salt etching to see what's feasible for my Exploring Intaglio group to manage in an afternoon. (Course with )
Also wanted to have an example that's less "me". (as in style of work). What better to use than an old photo of ME! 🤣
Think I can tidy it up a bit. But otherwise happy with a couple of hours work.

Back making experiments with etching aluminium with saline salt. Negative and positive mark-making options. Nice rubber brushes for mark-making with masking fluid lift ground. And experimenting with a range I'd white marker pens for semi-permiable textures. Easier for people to see what you're doing when whit = lighter. Easier than the usual black marker pens...
Tomorrow I might let you see a aluminium etched plate that I've now editioned....
