Importance of optimal room humidity

As far as heating systems are concerned, most people usually pay the attention to the temperature. Air humidity tends to be overlooked in the equation, but it is in fact very important factor that greatly affects our health, comfort, and the condition of the building. Humidity can be defined as the amount of the water v***r in the air. Combining recommendations from different sources, optimal indoor air humidity is between 30% and 60%.

During winter season when temperatures are cold, the air looses its ability to hold water, therefore the air humidity drops. Using traditional heating systems that heat the air and dry it up, the optimal room humidity can be very difficult to achieve. Low air humidity (less than 30%) can cause asthma and allergy symptoms, sinus infections and congestion, dryness in respiratory tract and skin. The viruses spread faster and more easily in the dry air. This becomes a great issue when dealing with a global pandemic like we are facing now. Dry skin does not absorb the heat well, therefore it is not easy to reach comfortable temperature. And finally, the structure of the house, wood flooring and furniture looses moisture and become prone to cracks and damage. High indoor air humidity (above 60%) on the other hand can also present us with challenges - condensation forming, growth of bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew and fungi, greater discomfort for people with asthma and allergies, and weakening or rotting of the structure of the building.

What is iHelios Heating?

Unlike the traditional, convection heating systems, that
heat up the air, which is then circulated around the room, until all the air in the room becomes warm, iHelios doesn’t relay on air circulation to deliver the heat.

Infrared radiation doesn’t warm up the air particles. The heat goes through the air particles and reaches the objects and living organism directly. They absorb
it and then slowly radiate it back. Like a concrete or wooden bench getting warm after being expose to the sunlight – the natural source of infrared heat.
