Brassed On is a standout highlight of our festival, celebrating the incredible versatility of brass music by re-imagining it in fresh and exciting ways. This unique programme pairs North East Artists with talented brass ensembles to create new music and take part in a unique and unforgettable performance taking place in July 2025.
In partnership with BBC Music Introducing and NARC. Magazine, we are looking for local artists who are passionate about collaboration and eager to explore new creative possibilities through Brass.

We're very excited to see that our 2022 commission with Richard Hawley will be making a comeback as part of Bradford 2025!
Richard will perform his classics with added brass from Bradford's own Black D**e Band at St George's Hall as part of Bradford 2025's The Big Brass Blowout!

Our Story
Brass, Durham’s liveliest festival, is back for 2019 with 10 days of outstanding performances across County Durham.
As well as international street bands from Spain and Germany, we will be using cutting-edge technology to involve performers in Denmark, Norway and beyond in unique live performances with bands here in Durham. We also have a choir from Texas joining with our own Festival Chorus for a performance of Verdi’s magnificent Requiem in Durham Cathedral.
One of our main themes for 2019 is Brass and Health. We are taking music into care homes and hosting a ‘Healthy Brass’ day which will feature talks and workshops on how brass players can maintain good mental and physical health.
