January not got off to the best start? 🍫
Here’s some helpful tips if you still have chocolate in the house
- if you know you have absolutely no self control around it then get rid, donate it, take it to work etc. so it’s not within reach
- factor it into your calories to allow for a little “treat” here and there
- if you struggle with all or nothing approach separate bits like quality street into smaller “portion sized bags” so you aren’t tempted to dip in the tub & eat the lot
- do not enter the “f**k it” mentally, if you overeat don’t restrict just get back to it, there’s no need to ruin the rest of your week from a few extra chocolates
- eat meals that are going to satisfy you and keep you full so you don’t feel the need to reach for lots of snacks

Don’t get sucked in by all the “diet friendly” foods you may see in the shops this time of year.
This small bottle contains 500 calories!! You could make yourself a full nutritional meal that will satisfy a food craving and it will keep you fuller for longer.
I personally would never waste 500 calories on “empty calories” as liquids are not going to keep you full for very long.
So don’t get sucked into januarys diet culture and don’t drink your calories. Eat less and move more is what is going to get you results - not buying into the latest FAD diet.

New year new me right?
If you go into the new year absolutely hammering yourself with an all or nothing approach you are likely only be able to make it stick for a few weeks. By introducing small gradual changes you are less likely to fail.
Here are my top tips for “getting back on track post Christmas” with food.
✨ Make a shopping list and plan out your meals for the week so that you know exactly what you are having each day
✨ Don’t just eat boring meals that you don’t enjoy, cutting out carbs, living off shakes, bland meals etc. will only make you crave food more
✨ Do incorporate some treats into your day - you do not have to cut out chocolate if this is something you enjoy and look forward to
✨ If there are still piles and piles of leftover Xmas biscuits, chocolates in the house and you feel like you have no self control around them - take them into work or donate them
✨ Set yourself a sustainable calorie target to follow, restricting yourself to low calories will only make it harder and make you miserable!

As we approach the festive 2 weeks of Christmas & New Year, you will probably see a lot of advice online telling you how to “stay on track”
However as much as I practice balance and not feeling the need to go silly, it is also okay to take a step back and have a more relaxed approach over the festive period.
Realistically a couple of extra treats, meals out and a few drinks will not unravel your entire fitness journey as you just draw a line after the celebrations and crack back on
Christmas is a time to be enjoyed with family and friends, not to worry about the scales going up by a small amount

Being given a plan and not following it is like asking for directions and then proceeding to walk the other way.
You are not going to progress or find your way doing this. This is why communication is super important when it comes to coaching.
You need your plan to fit into your life not make it super hard to manage. Not everyone can fit in 5x gym sessions a week or tick off 10,000 steps a day and this is okay!
Communication with your coach is key, if you are going off track - Tell your coach, if you are struggling to stick to food again speak up. Your coach is there to guide you through not make it harder!
