Foundation 2 Flashback to February Fun 😀
Our Valentines explorations have got off to a great start this morning 🥰
The children explored Transport and Transportation and Buildings and Bridges during January.
We asked them about what goes under bridges and what goes over them, where they would like a bridge to take them and provided resources to enable children to build a bridge from play equipment and resources.
The discovery element included exploring the room and play area to find the materials themselves.
While we we're building them, we asked what makes a bridge strong and what makes it fall down.
We asked the children to tell us and each other about their bridges.
The children were able to use this interest to further their developing understanding of prepositions such as ‘under’, ‘on top’, ‘behind’ by carrying out an action, moving and handling skills by travelling with confidence and skill around, under, over and through balancing and climbing equipment.
As part of our Chinese New Year celebrations in January, we looked at some Chinese writing. The writing said “Happy New Year in Chinese” We also talked about different traditions and how different countries celebrate different things. We talked about how in the country we live in we like to celebrate other countries differences.
We then looked at a photo of Prawn Crackers, a Rice bowl and Spoon, Chop-sticks and a Kaleidoscope.
We used the spoon and bowl to imitate using them to eat and then looked at Chop-sticks and asked the children
I wonder what we might use these for?
The children seemed particularly interested in the conversation about different cultural foods and pondered around the idea of perhaps trying some, so we tasted Prawn Crackers and for lunch we served Chow Mein and opened up our very own Chinese Restaurant in Nursery
In January we supported the children's developing managing feelings and behaviour skills by using the emotion puppets and modelling times when we might feel happy or sad during circle time.
We asked the children
‘Can you think of a time when you have been Happy?
We also asked the children to imitate the facial expressions for different emotions.
We ended our discussion on the characteristics of facial expressions and what they tell us and the children seemed to show an understanding of this as they pointed out the smile for the happy puppet.
We also pondered around the idea of how to make a happy face when drawing ourselves on the mark making table
⭐️🎉 We have had a fantastic time celebrating Chinese New Year - The Year of the rat ⭐️🎉
The children have enjoyed tasting Chinese food, engaging in role play in our 'Chinese restaurant' and exploring our lucky red sand
Wishing all of our children and families past and present a Happy New Year🎉
