An epic day for the team last week, who took part in the McCarthy & Stone Foundation Walking Challenge, which involved hiking 30km across the South Downs. A superb team spirit all the way through, and pleased to say we all made it across the finish line.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who kindly donated to support 'Team Spring' on our Just Giving page - delighted to say we raised £1,248!

The total raised so far by all participants who completed the walk is £31,000, and every penny donated will be matched by McCarthy Stone, bringing the total to over £62,000. Incredible result, and will go to supporting small grassroots charitable causes, including:

- Dementia charities
- Befriending services
- Social and community groups
- Community Transport Charities

These services really do make a meaningful and lasting difference to the lives of older people across the country.

Thanks to Julia Laister and Chealsie Stewart for all their organisation on the run-up to the event and during the walk, and to the team of volunteers for their much-appreciated supply of encouragement, Haribo and cold water along the way.

"Having recently experienced the hassle and stress of trying to sell her house and losing the property she wanted, my mother took her house off the market and had resigned herself to having to stay in a property that was too large for her. She then looked into McCarthy Stone retirement properties and discovered the Spring part exchange scheme and is now happily settled in her flat. The first offer from Spring was too low to make the move viable, but she was advised to negotiate and a slightly better price was agreed. My mother could have held out for a higher price on the open market but she would still be trying to sell her house to date and would have the lost the flat she wanted. My mother was able to move in within weeks of having her offer accepted without the uncertainty of a chain. The fact that she was able to have access to her house after completion date meant that she could move into her new flat on a day and time that suited her and was able to make sure she had everything she needed before the house was cleared. Obviously she still had to go through the conveyancing and legal processes but Rebecca and Simon at Spring were always happy to help with any issues and questions I had and Simon ensured that the completion date worked for us and kept me informed on progress. Downsizing and moving was always going to be a stressful time for my 89 year old mother but Spring helped keep the stress to a minimum over a much shorter period of time.
My mother is so relaxed and happy in her new flat that we both agree that selling with Spring was the best decision and worth the money lost in comparison to the estate agents valuation."
