The Rufus Trust (formerly Rufus' Friends' Fund) provides grants to low-income families in Warwickshire who have a member with learning disabilities, allowing them to benefit from a much-needed break, holiday or trip, and giving families and carers some respite.
The effect of having a break can be realised as space to breathe and reflect on what the family does and the actual impact that the carer has and the effect of appreciation that the family has to offer, giving everyone time to relax, reflect, and reconnect as a unit—something that is often taken for granted.

🍦 Breaking news from Ward & Rider HQ...
Legal briefs? Filed. Client calls? Handled. Ice cream? ABSOLUTELY.
This afternoon, the team at Ward & Rider Solicitors swapped their suits for sprinkles as we were all treated to ice cream — because great work deserves a great reward. Plus its also dress down week due to the weather! 🎉
Yes, we take the law seriously. But we also take our ice cream seriously.
This is what makes Ward & Rider more than just a law firm. It's a place where people are valued, celebrated, and occasionally showered in soft scoop. ❤️
If you're looking for a team that works hard AND plays hard — well, we might just have a cone with your name on it. 😉

⚖️ Legal Myth vs Fact ⚖️
Myth: “Common law marriage gives the same rights as being married.”
Fact: In many situations, unmarried couples do not have the same legal protections — particularly when it comes to wills, probate, and separation.
Without a valid will, an unmarried partner may not automatically inherit from your estate under intestacy rules. Similarly, if a relationship breaks down, cohabiting couples do not have the same legal rights as married couples during divorce proceedings.
Planning ahead and understanding your legal position can help protect both you and your loved ones.
At Ward & Rider Solicitors, our team can provide clear advice on wills, probate, cohabitation matters, and family law.

🐝 World Bee Day 🐝
One of the many benefits of working in the heart of Coventry city centre at Ward & Rider Solicitors is the convenience of free parking for staff at the Skydome car park. - (Paid by Ward & Rider)
What makes this even more special is the fantastic environmental initiative taking place there through the introduction of BeesMAX hives — supporting local bee populations and helping create a more sustainable urban environment right here in Coventry. Thanks Mark Gale for setting up this initiative.
Bees play a vital role in pollinating plants, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining ecosystems. Initiatives like these show how businesses and communities can work together to make a positive environmental impact. Today, on World Bee Day, it’s a reminder that even in busy city spaces, we can all contribute towards protecting nature and supporting the future of our planet. Planting wildflowers, supporting local honey producers, reducing pesticide use, or simply taking a moment to appreciate nature all contribute to protecting these incredible pollinators.
There’s also something powerful in the way bees work together — community, purpose, resilience and balance. A reminder that growth and sustainability are rarely achieved alone.
Protect the bees. Protect the future. 🌍🍯

We’re delighted to welcome back Chloe Bayliss (pictured on the left), Family Lawyer, to the team at Ward & Rider Solicitors.
Chloe has hit the ground running and is already making great progress under the guidance of our Head of Family Law Melanie Davis (pictured on the right).
Outside of work, Chloe enjoys baking (her lemon drizzle cake and chocolate fudge brownies are a highlight!), running — including completing several half marathons — and is currently busy with a home renovation project that’s keeping her on her toes.
Welcome back to Ward & Rider Solicitors, Chloe — we’re so pleased to have you with us again and look forward to having you work as part of our family department.
🌿 Gardening Week 2026 27th April 2026 - 3rd May 2026🌿
This week isn’t just about plants — it’s about pause.
Yes pause and smell the flowers! 🌸
In a world that moves fast, a garden reminds us that growth doesn’t have to be rushed. Seeds take time. Roots form quietly. Not everything blooms all at once — and that’s okay.
Garden Week is a gentle invitation to step outside, breathe deeply, and reconnect with something simple and real (its spring after all).
Feel the soil in your hands. Notice the colours, the textures, the small signs of life. These moments can help to ‘ground’ you (or allow us to be more emotionally stable & not feel overwhelmed when our thoughts feel overwhelming). Regular gardening can produce wonderful benefits too. There’s also a wellness practise called ‘grounding’ that encourages direct contact with the earth’s surface.
Tending to a garden can mirror how we care for ourselves:
🌱 Be patient with your progress
🌼 Celebrate small growth
🌿 Give yourself space to rest and recover
You don’t need a perfect garden — or even a garden at all. A single plant, a walk in nature, or just a few minutes of fresh air can help reset your mind.
This week, let yourself slow down even just for 5 mins.
You’re growing, even on the days it doesn’t feel like it.

We understand how quickly priorities can shift in a busy week. However, delaying important matters—particularly legal or financial—can often lead to more serious consequences down the line ⚠️
Taking timely, informed action is key to protecting your position and achieving the best possible outcome 📊
If something requires attention, it’s always better to address it early rather than risk unnecessary complications later ⏳
If you’re unsure where to start, seeking professional guidance can provide clarity and peace of mind 🤝

Today marks World Creativity and Innovation Day💡✨🧠—a reminder that creativity isn’t limited to art or technology. It plays a vital role in the legal profession too.
In law, innovation is often found in how we solve problems, communicate with clients, and navigate increasingly complex situations. It’s about finding better ways to deliver clarity, efficiency, and outcomes—especially when the stakes are high.
From embracing digital processes in conveyancing 🏡, to adapting approaches in Family Law, Personal Injury, Medical Negligence and Wills & Probate, creativity allows legal professionals to move beyond traditional frameworks and truly support clients in a meaningful way.
At Ward & Rider Solicitors, we recognise that no two matters are the same and encourage our solicitors & trainee solicitors to try and find solutions creatively. Trainee Solicitors appreciate our open door policy with access to our senior lawyers and this is a great practical way to provide solutions that are not only legally sound—but practical and client-focused.
Because in today’s world, great legal service isn’t just about knowing the law—it’s about how you apply it 💡
