I thoroughly enjoyed painting the inspirational Beth Morris of Beth Morris Workshops as a little birthday gift. I've been one of the tutors at the studio for 2 years now and it's definitely my happy place. Every time I pull out one of the many paint splattered boards I love looking at them. Every line, splash and splat tells a story of the art created at the studio. It seemed only right that Beth be painted on one of those boards 🎨

Thank you for being ok about me using your photo as a reference! You captured Beth's personality so perfectly in your photo...I couldn't resist painting it. I was trying to capture something that you captured! You always find the best way to get someone's personality and spirit into your photography

I could not be prouder to be involved in this! Everyone in the Beth Morris Workshops community has worked hard to put this exhibition together. The artwork is beautiful, interesting and varied. It'll be upstairs at Insole Court throughout the summer holidays - pop along (best to call first in case there are any private functions) to be inspired at Insole!

This portrait of Dostoevsky is almost finished. I can see a few things I still want to tweak but I'll stop soon. A bit of a change from painting my children...more beard hair.

I've also painted the edges gold. It is in oils, on a 60cm round board. Definitely one of my favourite authors - painting whilst listening to Dostoevsky audiobooks is an absolute joy! Though whilst painting this I mainly listened to comedy podcasts... I'm sure he'd have approved.

Started to add colour today. Building it up slowly. Don't think I'll get chance to work on it until next Weds now but very much looking forward to carrying on with it. Yesterday was beautiful and sunny and it felt a bit wrong to be working on such a dark, moody painting. Today was rainy and grey so this painting felt fitting!
