How Muscles Age, and How Exercise Can Slow It

You got to move it, move it! Researchers untangle the multifarious nature of muscle aging. So far, the only reliable treatment is exercise.




Plantar Fasciitis – degeneration or inflammation of the plantar fascia, the ligament that links the heel to the toes.

Symptoms: pain under the heel or towards the back of the foot’s arch, especially on your first steps of the day

Common causes: tight achilles tendons, if you have very high arches or very flat feet. Standing for long periods of time can also exacerbate it.

What to do: ice 1-2 minutes 3-4 times per day to reduce swelling, use arch supports in shoes and stretches to relieve pain, regular massage and reflexology treatments working on lower legs and feet.
