In fact, pretty much any exercise working on your upper body will affect how you breathe in some way

In this case, a little more weight was added to the right side to try and help fill the right lung

Your brain corrects movement in real time and if you can’t breathe properly it is already fighting a losing battle.

Breathing properly is the key to winning.

Here's a nerve exercise to help with grip strength, specifically to aid gripping with your whole hand
.
Test your hang (if testing a 2 arm hang try the exercise on the arm that feels less engaged)
.
Spread your fingers, raise your hand, drop your shoulder blade, bend your arm, move your elbow away from your body and tilt your head away from your hand. Lift and lower your shoulder blade for 5-10 reps
.
Retest your hang. If the exercise works you should either feel better grip from your hands or more engagement from your shoulders

One of the reasons we like neurology is it allows us to develop more than just traditional athletes. Usually, strength and conditioning courses teach speed as how to run fast. Needless to say it doesn't help much if running isn't your goal, and it doesn't even do a lot to explain the principles behind fast running. After looking at the neurology of speed however, turns out that there's several layers to learn about speed before you even get to running. Here's a drill for the left cerebellum that can help with turning speed on Rubik's cubes

If you can’t see it, you can’t save it.

You might not realise it but you might be keeping your eye on the ball for only half the time.

The other half you might be blind.

Your eyes might be performing a saccadic catch up to try and keep track of the ball.

For all the keepers here, imagine trying to save a shot when someone keeps flicking the lights on and off.

That’s what your brain sees from the information your eyes are giving it.

Here's how to reduce stress using the Schulte table
.
It's pretty easy to do. Just find the numbers 1 to 25 as quickly as you possibly can
.
Why does it work? When we get too stressed, our vision narrows. Our brain tells our eyes to focus only on the task at hand, and our eyes dart between all necessary tasks quick enough to keep some degree of focus on everything
.
If we were in a more relaxed state, our eyes would not focus so much. Instead we would have a less focused gaze, allowing us to use our peripheral vision to focus on a bigger picture at one time. Because we can see more and nothing needs urgent attention, our eyes do not need to move around so much
.
The Schulte table is quite brilliant, as it forces us to sit on the boundary between stress and relaxation at all times. If we get the right balance between focused energy and a relaxed gaze we can find the numbers much quicker, with fewer eye movements
.
Try it out and see how long it takes you. If you want to pursue this further, there are many Schulte table apps available on ios and android

Here's another weird flexibility drill, this time using a concept called mirroring (mimicking lower body with upper)
.
Test your straddle forward bend
.
Abduct and externally rotate your arms, move into shoulder flexion and extend your wrists
.
Move into neck extension or flexion (head up or head down) this isn't always the same so you might need to play with it
.
Eyes down for extra flexion
.
Hum for extra extra flexion
.
Retest
.

Why is Wim Hof breathing so effective?
.
Most of the time when people say they are going to the gym because they want to 'stay fit,' they are referring to all of the health benefits that tend to come with an active lifestyle
.
Quite a lot of these benefits are created due to the body's response to a healthy dose of stress, and a bit more is down to it's ability to use fuel (glucose & oxygen) efficiently
.
Well, it turns out that Wim Hof's breathing methods (over breathing followed by long breath holds) are one of the simplest ways to do both of these things
.
In fact, the benefits to this breathing are fairly similar to many benefits gained from many kinds of aerobic and cardiovascular exercises, but when we only focus on the breath we do not have to slow down due to lack of coordination or muscle/joint pains
.
If you are looking to seriously improve your performance or health, we highly recommend you add some Wim Hof breathing techniques to your training. You don't even have to get out of bed to do it, and in fact it can be a great way to get some instant energy when you wake
