Chard U12 Girls and Boys took part in the Somerset County Competition at a cold and windy Bruton...
The Girls started off with 1 - 1 draw with Yeovil & Sherborne with Tabitha Thompson equalising from a penalty corner. Next game a tough game against Taunton Vale which was an even encounter until last quarter when Vale scored twice from close range. A 2 -1 win against Bruton was a battling performance with Evie McCollom determination in the "D" and converted both goals. Next was a scrappy match with Shepton Mallet with neither side passing well but Evie managed to score one chance to gain the win. Taunton Civil Service, who went on to win the Tournament were next opponents and was an end to end match with TCS breaking the deadlock in the dying seconds. Lastly Cheddar Valley were the opposition and Chard passed well, creating chances from the right wing Helen Eames and won 3 - 0 with all three goals coming from debutant Emily Dummett.
The Boys came up against some strong opposition and were very competitive in all their matches, winning one, drawing one and losing three. George Gilmour-White stepping up from U10s to play in goal made some good saves, Luc Brown Archie Parris and Ethan Davis-Carrau tackled well in defence and the relentless running of William Thompson created chances from midfield and was Chard goalscorer on two occasions.
Many thanks for the coaching support of Tom Eames and Danny Grabham for Umpiring in both tournaments.

Donyatt United v Crewkerne Rangers reserves (Saturday, 5th March).
A game with not much in the 1st half apart from a couple of goals for Donyatt.
During the second half Donyatt stepped up a gear to create a 7 -1 scoreline at full time, with Crewkerne getting one back latterly.

A little way away... but still a terrific event to look forward to and pop in the diary.

Combe A vs Uplyme reserves saw a great home performance against a young Uplyme team who travelled with 11 players.
All credit to them for giving a battling performance in sunny but windy conditions.
The win, however, was emphatic and Combe triumphed with a 4 - 0 full-time score.

Donyatt United FC vs Winsham FC saw 2 - 1 on the scoreboard at half time.
However, it was a determined series of attacks from Donyatt that saw the score jump to 3 -1 shortly after the break.
But that was not the end of matters... The appointments were keen to balance the books before the close. And they did just that!
This was a challenging and unpredictable game and this was reflected in the final score draw, which was 3 - 3.
Both teams deserve credit for imaginative attacks and defence.

The Highway Code doesn't advise cycling in the centre of the road.
It advises cyclists to ride in the centre of their lane in some situations - not to deliberately slow drivers, but to boost visibility and ensure cars can only overtake when it is safe to pass.

Bit windy out..!!
;-)

Stay safe out there, everyone... The wind is picking up fast and furious. Looking out across Trinity Square at a tree, normally has more birds sitting in it than a Hitchcock movie, with its branches now dancing in the gale with not one bird in sight.

Very many many thanks to the church organist's team for granting us permission to film the hymn music rehearsals in The Minster this morning.
As historians of The Minster will know, our news media founder was organist at this same church back in the Victorian era.
