Thank you for liking the Axminster Country Market page. I would like to use your page to plea for more cooks .We desperately need at least one new cook.We have two just starting, but we are a busy market and need one home cook who would like to join our co operative. Anyone out there willing to find out more? You do not need to be a trained chef, just someone who understands good quality home cooking who would like to make a modest profit for their efforts . If this appeals to you, come along to the Masonic Hall ,South Street on a Thursday morning. You will be made very welcome

It’s Independent retailers weekend.

It’s obvious at the moment that people’s buying habits may have moved to online during this crisis. We truly need people to consider shopping in our independent shops rather than online, not just for Christmas but throughout the year.

Please support your local shops, traders and retailers!

"A nation of shopkeepers..." And proud of it! 💓 💓

This week has really reinvigorated my love of being a shopkeeper. The sun has been shining, town has been buzzing and I’ve got to meet so many of you in real life!! Which is one thing I absolutely love. It really makes it all worth it when you come and visit in person.

Even though I try my best to bring you the true representation of the shop on Insta, there’s nothing that really comes close to the real thing.

Open again tomorrow (Saturday)
10am - 4pm

Long live the indie highstreet 😆

Do you know someone in our local community who does that little bit extra to help others? Do you know someone who gives their time to helping improve the neighbourhood? Well, now's the time to say thank you...

This week (June 1 - 7) is Volunteers' Week, which is a week dedicated to saying thank you to all of the volunteers in our communities who make them a better place to live in.

More so than ever during the last 12 months, volunteers have played a vital part in the Covid response effort, just by helping to keep things going for the rest of us.

So we wanted to show our appreciation for those people who do some volunteering.

Share a post of someone local who is a much valued volunteer!!
#volunteersweek2021

Today we’d like to introduce you to one of our friendly front desk volunteers, Diana Bond. Diana has been volunteering with us since April 2019 after we reopened following our major refurbishment.

Diana does a regular weekly shift with us on the front desk and has a great sense of community spirit. She says: “If you live in a town, I believe it’s important to give something back to that town. I really enjoy how volunteering has enabled me to become a member of the local community. I’d recommend volunteering to anyone as it’s a great way of making friends and learning more about your local area.”

Like a lot of our retired volunteers Diana also gives her time to other local organisations, and for the last five years Diana has been volunteering at the wonderful Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre.

If you haven’t already, we highly recommend you pay the Coast Centre a visit. Entry is free and there’s no booking required. The centre also runs popular guided fossil walks and rockpool rambles (booking required). For more information visit their page or website.

As well as visiting the centre, anyone interested in local geology should join us on Wednesday June 16th for a talk by CHCC Senior Warden, Phil Davidson on the geology of the stunning Jurassic Coast and its links to Axminster on Zoom. See our page, website, or Eventbrite for further details.

Pulman's Weekly News

The Pulman's Weekly News and Advertiser series were founded in England in 1857 by Axminster born George Pulman. (His name is often mistakenly confused with the American railroad pioneer.)

The Pulman's series are important records of a prolific Victorian era press group that went on to span multiple decades and bridge three consecutive centuries.

Over the years the Pulman's titles expanded across East Devon, West Dorset and South Somerset and were published by a succession of newspaper owners.

In 2012 the papers morphed into the Pulman's View From series, covering predominantly the same areas as before and, in keeping with the times, developed an online presence.
