We enjoyed trying out the new clip and climb walls and the new lazer tag game. And Amelie was over the moon to be able to go on the Bombo this year! Oh and we found a fab hotel on the way up from Eindhoven airport!!

🇳🇱 Hotel Het Huis van Deventer 🇳🇱

What a find! Last night we stayed in this gorgeous hotel in the ancient city of Deventer en route from Eindhoven airport to Hof van Saksen.

We paid £151 including breakfast for an apartment with a massive (very comfortable) double bed and separate bedroom with cool kid’s bunk beds.

The hotel is right opposite stunning gothic church and we enjoyed exploring the cobbly streets and many squares all lit up with fairy lights.

Breakfast was a pancakes for the kids and a wonderful platter for the grown ups!

This hotel is bookable via our city hotels page (link in comments) and they have rooms which sleep up to 6.

This child friendly park in Limburg, close to Toverland theme park, is a great spot for a relaxing break in nature, with fab facilities and close to many attractions. Landal de Lommerbergen has undergone a complete renovation over the last couple of years, including:

We’re often asked for holiday park suggestions within easy reach of Amsterdam which offer something a bit different. How about these for starters:

1. Duinrell: 30 mins from Schipol airport, theme park and waterpark on site, 5 mins walk into the pretty village of Wassenaar, 3km from a gorgeous beach, no need for a car.

2. Koningshof: small scale family run authentic park 35 mins from Amsterdam, indoor and outdoor pool, play areas. Good base for the Keukenhof flower festival and 6km from Katwijk beach.

3. Landal Volendam: Authentic Dutch houses on the Markermeer lake, 10-15 mins walk to the fishing village of Volendam with its restaurants, shops and cheese factory! Dutch culture in bucketloads. 25 mins from Amsterdam and 25 mins from the Zaanse Schans windmills. 2 swimming pools within walking distance.

4. Landal de Reeuwijkse Plassen: A sustainable park on the water with high quality houses, indoor pool, indoor and outdoor play, 15 mins from Gouda cheese village, 45 mins from Amsterdam. Windmills, waterways and grazing cows on your doorstep!

5. Landal Waterparc Veluwemeer, just 40 mins from Amsterdam, on the edge of the Hoge Veluwe National Park and close to many attractions. 5 mins drive from the Hansel and Gretel pancake house and 10 mins from the fortified town of Harderwijk. 10 mins drive from Tulip Island. This park enjoys a waterfront location and has indoor pool, indoor and outdoor play areas.

We’re always on the look out for new child friendly days out and we were bowled over to discover Irrland last summer.

This is a huge palm tree fringed, plane-themed play park come play farm on the scale of nothing I had ever seen before! It was only €10 per person entry (under 2’s are free) and we were there the whole day.

Irrland is just over the border into Germany and calls itself “Europe’s biggest farm-adventure oasis”, extending to over 300,000 m2. Some of the things you can find there:

🛝 Many many slides! Including some very fast ones!
💦 Large paddling pool area with slides and tipping buckets
🪣 Indoor play pool made entirely of dried sweetcorn!
