ARTE & ARQUITECTURA & DISEÑO

At for Paris Art Week, RF Studio presents sculptural works rooted in natural fiber research and coastal ecosystems. Vegetable Fabric N°12, Coral Weave, and Wetland N°6 are woven from reed and totora gathered from Peru’s coastal wetlands, where water shapes ecosystems, memory, and material life.

These works were developed in close collaboration with the Goicochea family, a lineage of weavers from Cajamarca whose knowledge of vegetable fibers sustains both tradition and experimentation across generations.

At RF Studio, natural fibers are not only a medium, but a way of thinking through territory—material as a living system of relations between landscape, craft, and contemporary form.

Our sculptural works Tejidos Vegetales Nº12, Tejido Coral, and Humedal Nº6 weave a dialogue between body, landscape, and memory. Each piece grows within an ecosystem — a living fabric shaped by water, migration, and transformation.
Rooted in the traditional use of vegetable fibers native to Peru’s wetlands, these works explore the continuous exchange between organic systems and cultural practices. Reed and totora, gathered from the Huacho wetlands on Peru’s Pacific coast, are naturally sun-dried and bundled for weaving. Each project brings together designers, artists, and expert weavers.
On view at , Paris — until April 2026.

We’re proud to share RF Studio’s latest project: a residential extension for Yayasan Bali Purnati (The Bali Purnati Center for the Arts), one of Bali’s leading cultural foundations. Since 2000, it has welcomed artists from around the world, becoming a hub for experimentation and dialogue. The new complex strengthens this mission by supporting residencies and performances.

Built with local materials—salvaged wood, bamboo, volcanic stone, terracotta—the design adapts to the terrain, weaves around trees, and opens to rice fields. Crafted with local artisans, interiors feature custom furniture and fixtures made for the site.

Conceived as both a stage for creation and the everyday performances of life, the project points to a quieter, more sustainable path for Bali, where tradition and modernity remain in conversation.

Observing the geography of the Peruvian Andes and the islands of the Indo-Pacific ocean, we witness the expression of subterranean flows. Earth’s internal forces shape landscapes, fracture crusts and create new land. Lava moves beneath us like water: dense fluid energy sculpting terrain over millennia. Lava Cores capture this deep-time movement, suspending a moment of matter’s transformation, like a trace of the Earth in flux.

2024: A Year of Exploration and Creativity
This year, RF Studio embarked on a journey of exploration, collaboration, and innovation, creating projects that intertwine nature, culture, and tradition.

• Tidal Threads: A weaving piece inspired by Pacific and Indian Ocean currents, drawing on traditions from Polynesia, Micronesia, Indonesia, and South America.

• Painted Shirts - Natural Dye: Collaborating with Shipibo artist Jessica Soria to create cotton shirts painted with Amazonian materials, blending art with endangered rainforest landscapes.

• Vegetal Fabrics: Liana, a woven sculpture for Massimo Dutti’s Art in Progress, captures the essence of life between plant and animal forms.

• Soil Map Pieces: Objects crafted from Andean mineral fragments, reconstructing landscapes and celebrating Peru’s geological diversity.

• Zona Maco - Down the River: Two artworks by Ana Barboza and Rafael Freyre that explore water’s cyclical flow in the Amazon and Andes, merging plants, rivers, and communities.

• Soil Map Table: A monumental, sculptural table designed for the expanded dining area of Central Restaurant.

• Bali: A project in Sukawati, Bali, integrating bamboo and sustainable materials to honor local traditions and Tri Hita Karana.

EXPLORATIONS

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open Studio. We close another year by sharing processes of design and interdisciplinary experimentation with fellow artists, designers, and specialists from various fields.

“Explorations” is a space for immersing ourselves in the complexity of territories, materialities, and bodily rituals—a quest for new languages and ways of inhabiting the world.

We believe in the importance of building connections across different forms of knowledge, sharing discoveries, and fostering responsible ways of relating to the natural environment.

EXPLORACIONES
