Ethiopian Wolf (Canis simensis)
The Ethiopian wolf is one of Africa’s rarest and most endangered carnivores — and it lives only in the highlands of Ethiopia. Known locally as “Ky kebero” or “Simien fox”, this elegant animal is a true symbol of the Ethiopian mountains.
It has a slender body, long legs, and a reddish-golden coat with white underparts and markings on the face. Unlike other wolves, it mainly hunts small rodents such as giant mole rats, which thrive in the Afro-alpine grasslands.
Today, fewer than 500 Ethiopian wolves remain in the wild, found mostly in the Bale Mountains and a small population in the Simien Mountains National Park. Conservation efforts continue to protect this unique species from threats like disease and habitat loss.
Seeing an Ethiopian wolf in its natural habitat is a truly rare and unforgettable experience — a highlight for any visitor to the Ethiopian highlands. # Simien Mountains Trekking Simien Tour Guide #+251915029822
