Statement on Recent Attacks Against Fellow Africans in South Africa.

Deep concern and disappointment are expressed over the recent actions taking place across South Africa.
Reports of violence, discrimination, and hostility directed at fellow Africans—including Ethiopians, Nigerians, Zimbabweans, and others—stand in direct contradiction to the principles of African unity and solidarity.
Africa’s history is rooted in collective struggle and mutual support. During the fight against apartheid, many nations across the continent, including Ethiopia, stood in solidarity with the people of South Africa and supported leaders such as Nelson Mandela in their pursuit of freedom and justice.
In light of this shared history, the current situation is both painful and difficult to comprehend.
A nation that overcame apartheid is now confronted with actions that reflect division and exclusion among Africans themselves. Such developments undermine the values that have long united the continent.
The Government of South Africa is urged to uphold its responsibility to protect all individuals within its borders and to take firm, timely, and fair action against those responsible for violence and incitement.
The people of South Africa are also encouraged to reflect on their history and the collective sacrifices that contributed to their freedom, and to uphold that legacy through unity, respect, and peaceful coexistence.
Africa’s strength lies in its unity. What affects one nation affects the entire continent.
An immediate end to these actions is essential.
