Single-Use Plastic Bags Are Officially Banned in Ethiopia
Under the Solid Waste Management and Disposal Proclamation No. 1383/2017, the use, production, import, and sale of single-use plastic bags will be strictly prohibited starting January 31, 2026 (ጥር 23/2018), after the six-month grace period ends.
What the law says
- Individuals caught using or carrying plastic bags face fines
- Businesses producing, importing, or selling plastic bags face heavy penalties
- Repeat or serious violations may lead to imprisonment
What we can do
- Use reusable cloth bags or baskets
- Support businesses offering sustainable alternatives
- Spread awareness in your community
A cleaner Ethiopia starts with daily choices.

Global Point is a youth-led initiative, launched in partnership by Enderase Youth Association and Enfluencers, focused on using research and data to lead solutions for climate action, food security, and youth employment.

We can even do it better!
The physical "Inter-COP Sessions," organized by the Enfluencers and supported by MSTCDC and Action Aid Ethiopia, successfully took place on November 29th, 2025, in the ActionAid's Global Platform Empowerment Hub!
Over 20 participants from the Global Platform Ethiopia and various youths engaged in discussions of understanding what the UNFCCC system is and what it means for Ethiopia, the outcomes of the COP 30, and finally an exercise of a simulation on how countries negotiate in these spaces.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of these sessions, especially our trainers: Yeabtsega, Jodahi and Nahom.

Youth Take Charge!
The online "Inter-COP Sessions," organized by the Enfluencers and supported by MSTCDC and Action Aid Ethiopia, successfully took place from November 3rd to 7th, 2025!
Over 50 participants from universities including Woliata S**o, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Addis Ababa Science and Technology, and Arbaminch engaged in discussions on Climate Change Science, Climate Change Negotiations, and Climate Advocacy.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of these sessions, especially our trainers: Dr. Meseret, Yordanos, and Yeabtsega.
