Africa has too few health workers and too many unemployed ones. At the same time. A new agenda just came out of Addis Ababa, and it deserves more attention than a headline.

At the 76th WHO Regional Committee for Africa, ministers of health adopted the Africa Health Workforce Agenda 2026-2035, the continent’s first shared, costed roadmap to plan, train, and retain 3 million more health workers by 2035.

We’re breaking it down in a 5-part series: the paradox at its center, the return on investment behind it, the proof that it already works, and what actually has to be built underneath it for any of this to become real.

Two days of strong sexual and reproductive health sessions, with one message throughout: progress rests on a well-trained workforce. Our takeaway is that the next generation of training will not look like a classroom. It has to be in-service and built around the learner.

One Step Consult has concluded a five day validation workshop in Musanze, in collaboration with the RBCRwanda Official Rwanda Biomedical Centreand with the support of Enabel under the TRIBE-HUB programme, covering fifteen eLearning modules for health professionals.

A shout out to the subject matter experts from six RBC divisions who made it happen. Validating clinical content is demanding work. Every module has to be complete, accurate and aligned to national guidelines before it reaches a single learner. They brought their dedication and determination to that process, sharing their expertise and knowledge to strengthen the content across all fifteen modules.

The courses now move to pilot testing with the health professionals they are built for. Their feedback will inform the final version ahead of launch.

We just kicked off something we have been excited about. 🇷🇼

One Step Learning is proud to announce the official launch of our collaboration with RBCRwanda Official Rwanda Biomedical Centre, supported by through the -HUB programme.

We will be collaborating with RBC teams, Ministry of Health | Rwanda Ministry of Health Rwanda teams to redesign, build capacity, and support staff to develop new eLearning modules implementing competency-based learning and microlearning approaches at the heart of every we build together.

This is not about putting training . It is about transforming how Rwanda’s health workforce learns with a perspective to continuous professional development cpd that meets Africa’s modern health professional where they are.

We look forward to engaging and learning a great deal through this process, bringing forth sustainability, experience sharing, and genuine collaboration every step of the way.

Rwanda is already one of the most forward-thinking health systems on the continent. This is one more step in that story and we are honoured to be part of it.
