I Am We: A Book of Community

Stories as Windows and Mirrors

Books can be mirrors—reflecting who children are—
and windows—helping them see others’ worlds.

Select stories that show diverse families, communities, and possibilities.
Try:

The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson

Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman

Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Peña

When children see themselves and others represented, they build pride, empathy, and fairness.

📖 Great classrooms don’t just teach ABCs — they teach identity, inclusion, and justice.

📖 The Other Side – Jacqueline Woodson
📖 Amazing Grace – Mary Hoffman
📖 Last Stop on Market Street – Matt de la Peña
