✨Hobbies and Community: Parkour with Collin! ✨

Collin was one of the two friends that helped start the first Forge Community experiment back in 2017! He is all about community and it’s been awesome to collaborate on a few things over the years.

He has done a ton of cool stuff, but one thing that always stuck out to me was how his trip to Egypt became an opportunity to meet friends in the PARKOUR community!!!

So cool!

His online community became his real life community that week! So cool.

Who doesn’t love a good brunch?! Sometimes all it takes to create opportunity for community is a simple text message with a time and date for people to come eat some good food!

What other niche interest communities have you been able to find to enjoy with others who love it just as much as you?

Today I finished what has been a tiny, 3.3 year hobby!!! When we got our wedding photos, I decided to make an album not just of the day itself, but the months leading up to it and the years after.

I wanted to have a record of the places, people and events that shaped us early in our marriage to look back on and share decades down the road.

I filled it up finally with photos from this year and I loved looking through it all.

I also printed our yearly photo for our annual photo ornament. I also decided that I wanted to get a photo to represent a big event from every year in the fam, so that every year when we put up the tree, the stories can be told time and again to our kids so they’ll know where they came from.

Like many of you maybe, stories are a huge part of my sense of community. These are some ideas I’ve loved that have helped me feel grounded!

Alright, the holidays can bring about mixed feelings for people so December’s theme will be FUN! I want to hear about all your odd and quirky hobbies this month and the ways you’ve found others who like those odd and quirky things too.

Chances are, someone else might be into antique hats too, idk 🤷🏻‍♀️😏

I’m always challenged by something St. Therese of Lisieux said:

“I know now that true charity consists in bearing all our neighbors'defects--not being surprised at their weakness, but edified at their smallest virtues.”

That is hard to do, as it requires a serious perspective change. But how could that affect our views of the other people in community with us?
