You have probably heard about the Boumerdes or Chlef earthquakes, but have you heard about the 1716 one that struck Algiers? One of the deadliest of our history, this earthquake is the reason Algerians adopted one of the most sofisticated anti seismic system at the time.
I would like to highlight something: the fact that Algerian rulers invested in this technology demonstrates the quality of Algerian governance at the time.
I provided a simple explanation of the Gaiola system but if some of you are architects, please feel free to share with us in the comments more info.

When I was doing research for the book, I ended up visiting one of Rais Hamidou's palaces. It felt surreal to see for myself the house where the greatest Rais spent his summers.
However, one thing struck me: this place is commonly called Villa du Traité, rather than Djnan Rais Hamidou. I would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness of what this palace used to be.
