Hey, Debaters!🤗

So our friends from Case Club, have asked us to give a little hand in promoting their new upcoming case competition, the Client Consulting Case! During the case, you will get to interact directly with the "Secret" case company as well as get guidance from McKinsey & Company consultants.

Besides getting this amazing consulting experience you will also get to interact with people from other programs and even other universities during the whole thing!
✨All of this and there is no case experience required✨

The outline for the Case Competition is as per below:
Day 1: Tuesday 9/11 from 17:00-20:00 (case toolbox training)
Day 2: Thursday 11/11 from 08:30-22:00 (introduction to case company and case solving)
Day 3: Friday 12/11 from 10:00-19:00 (presentation and networking)
⏳The application deadline for “Client Consulting Case” is tomorrow!!: Friday 29/10 at 23:59⌛

To all members and friends of CBS Debating Society,

After our extraordinary General Assembly, we’ve come to the consensus to rebrand as “Copenhagen Debating Society”. We think that this better reflects the makeup of our society and allows us to be more inclusive and represent the entire greater Copenhagen area instead of just Copenhagen Business School at our international competitions. As such, we are extremely excited to start this new chapter of our society’s life and win titles for Copenhagen instead of just CBS!

Hope you enjoy our new logo!

*Slight change! We’ve moved João’s presentation to April 13th as we’ll be dedicating April 6th to Tournament Prep!

Since our end of winter online events were so well received, it is time to announce our Spring event schedule!

19/01/2021

Lockdown or no lockdown, we just miss debating too much.
So, here's our schedule for the last bit of winter! All events will be fully online - here's the link to our infamous Discord server: https://discord.gg/q6PvqrT
All events are set to begin at 5pm! We hope to see you there.

[11/18/20]   Hey all, so as you know our General Assembly is going to be next Tuesday. With this in mind, we on the board are looking for a freshie (as in a new member of the society) to join our board. If you are interested in this position please let either Kai Zhang, Laura Pilmark, or Shaun Sarker know, and if you have any questions on this just ask the above people.

12/11/2020

Here's our Winter Schedule for the society's weekly sessions! We look forward to seeing you all there. Don't forget to stay updated on individual events on the event page here on FB :D

08/10/2020

UPDATE: Due to the new Covid-19 restrictions, there are changes to the schedule. Please keep updated on the individual events.

We are very excited to share our plan for the next five weeks with you, and we hope this excites you too! Note that we are always open to everyone - it's never too late to attend your first meeting. All our events comply with the necessary health guidelines.

CBS Debating Society Mentorship Sign Up Form

Thanks everyone for attending, it was a real pleasure to see you all and have you carry the Experienced Debaters with your excellent arguments!

For all who were unable to come, this meeting consisted of a general summary of the Mentor Program where the EDs will hopefully guide the freshies in their journeys to become better debaters by either giving feedback in the debates their mentees participate in or by answering questions that the mentees might have. This is a very quick and easy summary but a lot of the program is dependent on what you want to focus or improve upon/what your mentor thinks the approach of the program should be. If you are struggling with deciding which mentor you want or would be a good fit with you, do not hesitate to contact any or all of them, if you have any questions. The mentors are Shaunak Sarker, Arnulf Johannes Snedker-Nielsen , Kristian Lindved Jensen, Laura Serafine Pilmark, Alexander Chen and Kai Zhang.

This meeting also had a show debate where the freshies were divided into teams to collaborate and create arguments that the experienced debaters brought to their speeches during a BP Debate.

Below we are attaching the mentor program sign up form where if you intend to participate in this program is the best way for us to match goals and preferences with respective mentors.

Once again, we at CBS Debating Society are so proud of the group of engaged and talented pool of people we’ve attracted to our society and are incredibly happy that despite these current times, you still decide to stick with our society.

[09/07/20]   Hey all, unfortunately due to the rising cases of Corona CBS has decided that all student societies bookings have been cancelled until September 22nd, due to their “social element” as far as we know this means our meetings booked for tomorrow and next week are cancelled until further notice. We apologize for this late notice as we were just notified.

Thank you so much for showing interest in our meetings and coming, we will be sure to start up right when we are able to.

We are currently in the process of determining if we can organize an online event, at least to make sure that people can receive the workshop component and, possibly, conduct a debate online. Keep an eye out on this post, and we will keep you updated if this becomes a reality.

[09/02/20]   Hey debaters! If you haven’t heard CBS Students has released their app where you can track all the societies and events! Make sure to give us a follow when you download it! Don’t worry, we will still be using Facebook as our primary communication tool and have our events be posted on both platforms!

Also thanks so much to DDA for organizing the drunk debate!

Thank you so much for your great interest today at student society day! After a busy day we have plenty of ideas to work on and implement.

We hope to see as many as you as possible on Wednesday 17:30 at Kilen 143 for our next debating practice, where we will give a crash course on British Parliamentary debating, talk about "burdens of proof" in both a debating and general context and have a presentation on regulatory actions of the government (linked below).

CBS debating society does Athens! This summer, 10 of us went to represent Denmark at the European University Debating Championships!

And we are so proud to say that we set a national record with our team KU of Jonas and Clara being the first ever Danish team to advance beyond preliminary rounds! And we are SO proud to say they made it all the way to the ESL semi finals!!! We are also so proud to say our judge Kristian was LEAD judge in the final prelim round! Our newest first year members Kristian, Flo and Emmeli did amazing having only debated/Adjudicated for less than a year! And big shout our to our lovely Estonians - Triin and Kaur!

Outside of debating our teams got the opportunity to mingle with the top university debaters in the world, attend incredible roof top bars in Athens, chill by the pool and sightsee!

We obviously love debating interesting topics, but the best part is still travelling around Europe with the loveliest group of friends anyone could hope for ❤️

Finally, we want to give special recognition to the boys who have carried our society for many years - Alex, Daniel, Kristian! It's going to hurt saying goodbye, but we expect many more drunken debates, high school musical songs, fpizza trips, quiz nights and counter prop communism.

To read much more about the topics we debated, our society, pictures and how to join, check the website!!

Starting from the coming fall semester, the CBS debating society has been handed to a new generation of debaters, and as with any generational shift, this comes with fresh ideas and traditions. With the revamp of the society there is now an increased focus on accessibility, consistency and transparency. In order to centralize all information, a new website has launched (www.cbsdebatingsociety.com) and we hope to make it better over time, with suggestions and criticism being welcome from all sources.

To a new semester, and a reinvigorated society, we hope to see you on Wednesday September 18th for the first of many sessions!

As a society, there's nothing better than when we can find time to all travel together! This time, thirteen of our members had an incredible successful weekend in Tallinn at the Estonian Open 2019!

Clara and Jonas made it to semis, and our star team Triin and Alexander made it all the way to the final of the tournament!

Three of our debaters even became top ten speakers of the tournament!! Kai 10th, Jonas 8th and Clara placed 7th!!!! Kristian also placed as the 3rd best novice speaker. Our lovely Pierce also broke as a judge!

More importantly, we found time to explore Tallinn with some wild nights out and dinners all together!

Thank you so much to the org. comm. for organising such a lovely tournament (and pub crawl!)
