The rest of 2022 we are doing a collaboration with Løgismose bringing you 4 amazing wines. Løgismose has made some great discounts on these wines if you use the discount code “CBSWINEQ4”

The last wine of the collaboration is a champagne. This wine is a perfect representation of why champagne is seen as the best to make sparkling wines. Made on the three traditional champagne grapes Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot Meunier and with 24 months on the bottle before degorgement it makes a nice fresh champagne. The notes are classic champagne: Citrus and brioche and wild strawberries.

Champagne Diebolt-Vallois NV Brut is available at:
https://loegismose.dk/champagne-tradition-brut/p/62726/
The regular price is 345 kr
The CBS wine price is 225 kr (with the code “CBSWINEQ4”)

The rest of 2022 we are doing a collaboration with Løgismose bringing you 4 amazing wines. Løgismose has made some great discounts on these wines if you use the discount code “CBSWINEQ4”

The Third wine of the collaboration is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero valley. This vine is called Antidoto which means antidote. This is an intentional choice by the winemaker Bertrand Sourdais as he wanted this wine to be the antidote against some of the “boring” wines being mass produced from the same area. He primarily uses grapes from fields in the upper region of the valley, and the wine stokes at an age between 30 -100 years. This makes a powerful and expressive wine with notes of berries, but also more herbal notes such as sage and currant leaves.

Ribera del Duero Antidoto 2020 is available at:
https://loegismose.dk/ribera-del-duero-antdoto/p/70568/
The regular price is 195 kr
The CBS wine price is 110 kr (with the code “CBSWINEQ4”)

The rest of 2022 we are doing a collaboration with Løgismose bringing you 4 amazing wines. Løgismose has made some great discounts on these wines if you use the discount code “CBSWINEQ4”

The Second wine of the collaboration is a (natural) red wine from Rhone. This Cote du Rhone has no added sulfur or foreign yeast strains and is not filtered. This makes a wine that follows its own natural prosseses and therefore does not look nor taste like a conventional wine. This wine is aromatic and rich with a lot of dark fruit notes of plum, blueberries and blackberries.

Côtes du Rhône un coup de dés Jamais N’Abolira le Hasard Natur 2020 is available at:
https://loegismose.dk/cotes-du-rhone-un-coup-de-des-jamais-nabolira-le-hasard-natur/p/79475/

The rest of 2022 we are doing a collaboration with Løgismose bringing you 4 amazing wines. Løgismose has made some great discounts on these wines if you use the discount code “CBSWINEQ4”

The first wine of the collaboration is a white wine from burgundy. It is a Mâcon- villages Blanc. Mâcon is the most southern area of Burgundy known for its whites made without oak and often having notes of mature yellow apple. This wine definitely has those characteristic notes of mature yellow apple, but also notes of yellow flowers, honey melon and pie crust. It is mineral and is medium bodied.

Mâcon-villages Blanc- Domaine des Chenevières 2020 is available at:

Curious about what it is like to be part of CBS Wine?

Over the next period, our very own Head of Marketing, Peter Vilstrup, will on our Instagram explain what’s going on in the heart of CBS Wine. How do we organize tasting? Do we only drink old and expensive French wines from wine regions no one can pronounce? And what about discounts and partnerships, how do they come to life?

Léon Beyer Grand Cru Comtes d’Equisheim 2013
Léon Beyer is one of the most renowned winegrowers in all of Alsace – and that is for a reason! Their crisp, elegant, fruit-forward Riesling wines have long been regarded as some of the best in the region.

Léon Beyer produces many different varieties, but the Comtes d’Equisheim is their top wine. Produced in the heart of beautiful Equisheim city, this Grand Cru wine has very little residual sugar, leaving it bone dry with notes of honey, yellow pear, citrus, and even a bit of petroleum, which is very typical for quality Riesling wines from Alsace. It has been oaked for six months in barrel, giving it a creamy mouthfeel, while still maintaining its high acidity.

This wine drinks beautifully now, although it has at least a decade more to live. It pairs well with spicy foods, fish with high fat as salmon and cod, as well as salted foods. Nevertheless, it can also be enjoyed by itself.

La Spinetta – Langhe Nebbiolo 2018 🇮🇹🍇

This wine is a very good introduction to what Piedmont is all about, with lots of local character where both roses, tannins, and herbs present themselves in great harmony. But the real feel comes from the structure, which is very rank, but also lively and free-flowing underneath, as can be the case with wines from Barolo and Barbaresco as well.

Discover this wine with some braised pork or duck breast, and feel the tannins slightly soften and make the wine feel fresher and more vibrant, with acid enough that you almost feel it ‘cut’ through the fatty aspects of the dish.

Thank you Løgismose for presenting this wine at the CBS Wine X Løgismose tasting.

Rías Baixas Albarino 🇪🇸🇪🇸
If you always are looking for a wine to serve at a party that will please everyone, look no further than Albarino!
This aromatic light white wine which primarily is produced in Spain and Portugal is a perfect wine to serve without food or with some light seafood.

Rias Baixas Albarino is a perfect example of this white wine. The Wine is from the region Galicia in Spain, and it is a blend of three different grapes but by far the dominant is Albarino. It is very floral and has notes of melon, pineapple, and orange flowers. This wine is not meant for the cellar – it is meant to be enjoyed young. So, if you want to serve some nice fresh white wine for your next diner party, this wine should be in consideration.

🍷 this is the wine to bring when you are drinking wine with your boss and you want to impress and show you have an elegant palette for red wines.

Notably, this Red Burgundy is a very lovable Pommard for the slightly dark but still elegant side. Abundant amounts of blackberries, plums, and violets are sent off with a little mocha and other spices from the dishes. Fine balance and lovely grape freshness and not least some well-proportioned tannins, which contribute to freshness and signal a promising development potential.

Wine from Denmark! 🇩🇰🍷 Interview with Jakob Lei from Årø Vingård

Jakob is currently making an exciting crowdfunding campaign on COOP Crowdfunding - and you have the chance to make Jakob’s dream come true.

“My goal for my crowdfunding campaign is to create a small distillery, where our guests can follow the distillation process and create their bottle of gin or brandy. Secondly, I will have a second production line that can run parallel with my wine production, but with production mainly during wintertime.”

Besides an Årø Vingård wine, Jakob preferes wines like Red Bourgogne, Meursault, Champagne and Grauburgunder. “I like wines that are clean and elegant in their body and taste. I do not like high alcohol and warm wines.” Jakob explains

We hope that you have enjoyed this insight into the Danish wine industry - remember to check out the crowdfunding campaign on COOP Crowdfunding

Wine from Denmark! 🇩🇰🍷 Interview with Jakob Lei from Årø Vingård (remember to check out their Crowdfunding campaign at COOP Crowdfunding)

“The Cold Climate Wines are unique in their dry and freshness and the climate in Denmark is quite good for this. We can make a wine that is hard to produce in the warmer regions and by that, we have a position in the market, where we don´t have to compete only on price. Furthermore, the interest in wine in Denmark is quite high and therefore, an interest in the Danish wine productions is high as well.” says Jakob

The island of Årø is in Danish terms perfect for wine production since they rarely get spring frost due to the accumulation of heat in the water close around the island.

“Fungicides are our biggest issue and can in some years have a major impact on our yield and secondly the high labor cost can be an issue in making a wine in the cost range, that is possible,” says Jakob

“In the future, the international Wine industry will find out about the Danish wines and the level of export will increase and Denmark will be more recognized as a cold climate wine country on the level as England.”

Wine from Denmark! 🇩🇰🍷 Is it possible? Oh yes, it is - CBS Wine sent a reporter into the field (quite literally) to visit Årø Winery (aka Årø Vingård ) and interviewed Jakob Lei the wine farmer:

Årø Winery is located on the small island of Årø between Jutland and Funen. The island has only 150 citizens. The idea behind Årø Winery is to produce quality wine, with its uniqueness, and to create a winery for people to visit and where the guests are coming back to revisit time after time.

“We produce approx. 20.000 bottles a year with a majority of whites, but we also have Reds, Rosé, sparkling and other fruit wines in our portfolio,” says Jakob

“The most planted vine is the Solaris variety along with more of the “new” varieties developed for cold climate wine production, where the grapes can prune in a shorter time than the varieties known from the old Wine World. Some of the older varieties can also grow in Denmark, where Pinot Noir is a good example. Our vineyards cover 5 hectares” continues the wine farmer

Follow for more insight into Danish wine - and in the meantime, you can visit the crowdfunding campaign that Årø Winery is doing right now at COOP Crowdfunding!!

Now onto the last region of the Northern-Rhône theme, Cornas, which is also one of my favorite regions when it comes to Syrah. It is one of the smaller appellations of the area covering 131 ha, producing only wines made from 100% Syrah.

The wines are often unique in style, really representing where they come from, having notes of granite, black olives, blackberries, pepper, smoke, and more tannins than the neighboring appellations.

Todays wine is Cornas ‘Les Vielles Fontaines’ 2015, Alain Voge:

Beautiful wine, still way too young, but it has so much structure and concentration. Representing the local granite feel of Cornas, while still having lots of garrigue. Would ideally cellar it for 8-10 years more, but if you cannot keep your hands off it, so be it.

The wine can be bought at www.hagelquist.dk

Continuing our Northern-Rhône theme 🍷🇫🇷 we are pleased to have a wine from the legendary Hermitage hill, a small appellation, which is often regarded as the ‘home’ of Syrah. However, they also produce a small number of white wines from Marsanne and Rousanne.

For the first time in our Northern-Rhône theme, we are going to focus on a mature example from the appellation, as Hermitage tends to shine and show its true colors with some age. Where the best examples can last 20, 30, 40 years, gaining notes of hanged meat and herbs, in a beautiful manner.

The wine covering Hermitage today is Hermitage ‘Les Bessards’ 1998 from Delas Frères:

What a beautiful wine, reflecting what mature Hermitage can bring to the table, classical, with hanged meat, some bacon fat, dark red fruits. But even with these heavier notes, the wine still managed to have a pleasing acidity, and the fruits, even though they were dark, were still fresh in style considering the age.

The wine can be bought at hjhansen-vin.dk.

We are staying far up north in the northern-Rhône, now paying a visit to the legendary appellation of Côte-Rôtie. The wines from this region are always red made from Syrah, however it is permitted to add up to 20% Viognier in the wines, the area under the vine is roughly 2.5x the size of Condrieu.

The wines of Côte-Rôtie are some of the greatest Syrah wines made in the world, growing on a steep and stony hill, the expression of the wines is often very complex and intense. They tend to provide flavors of dark fruits, pepper, violets, while also maintaining a beautiful tertiary meatiness. These are wines that are meant to age, which they do wonderfully, the greatest wines of the appellation can easily be kept for decades.

The wine chosen to represent Côte-Rôtie today is: Côte-Rôtie ‘Gerine’ 2015 from Domaine André François.

This wine represents an elegant style of Côte-Rôtie, it has a great black fruit structure upheld by some very fine floral notes as well as some classic black pepper. The wine’s minerality portrays the stony area very well, which is further depicted by its fine but coating tannins. It contains 5% Viognier, which gives it a style that is quite attractive for drinking even at this early stage, however, I am certain that it will evolve gracefully being cellared for a few more years.

The wine can be bought at www.chvin.dk

23/03/2021

For the third part of our exploration of the Northern-Rhône we are going to talk about Condrieu, which exclusively produces white wines, made 100% from the Viognier grape. It is situated at the northernmost quarter of the Northern-Rhône, and the area under the vine is less than 1/10th the size of Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph.

The wines of Condrieu are made in a very rich style, with loads of intensely exotic fruit, while also having an almost oily texture. This is combined with Viognier having low acidity, which makes these wines extremely recognizable and unique in style. This style might seem ‘too much’, when being used to the styles of Riesling/Sauvignon Blanc, and that refreshing acidic grip they provide. However, the wines of Condrieu usually also provide you with a certain spiciness and minerality, that balances out the rich style.

The wine we have chosen to represent Condrieu is: Condrieu ‘Brèze’ 2017 from Domaine Louis Cheze.

This wine is made in a rich style presenting loads of stone- and tropical fruits, with the most prominent being apricots while having the classical ‘mellow’ texture of Condrieu. At the same time, it also provides a very good example of minerality acting as a balancing component. As there is a firm backbone of minerality, presented in an almost spicy way, with a touch of almonds, making this wine rather precise in its overall style.

15/03/2021

For the second part of our Northern-Rhône adventure, we are visiting Crozes-Hermitage, which is the second-largest appellation of the area. It is placed just at the foot of the infamous Hermitage hillside and produces some amazing wines made mainly from Syrah, but with a small production of white wine grapes as well; Marsanne and Roussanne.

The focus today is on the Syrah made within the appellation, which tends to produce savory, herbal, and fruit intense wines. They are some of the most approachable wines made in the Northern-Rhône, both in terms of their early drinking qualities, but also the price tag, which is much lower than many of the appellation’s neighbors. But even with their early drinking qualities, you should not be afraid to age the wines, as they tend to develop in complexity, gaining notes of meat/leather/olives, if you keep them in the cellar for a few years.

To provide you with a reference within the area, we have selected one wine from each appellation, that covers the style and quality very well.

Today’s wine is Crozes-Hermitage ‘Les Croix’ 2016 from Domaine Les Bruyeres:

This wine is very precise with loads of dark fruit, herbs, and black pepper, which is very well balanced out by the level of acidity and taste that reminds one of a classic ‘Olive Tapenade’, bundled with some fresh but well-integrated tannins. The wine is harvested from 60+ years old vines, which can be felt from the great length on the palate as well as the intensity of the wine. In total, this makes for a wine that represents some of the greatness to be found within the ‘less-regarded’ appellation of Crozes-Hermitage.

The wine can be bought at www.Bichel.dk

Author: Emil Guldhammer

10/03/2021

To begin our journey of exploring the Northern-Rhône, we are first visiting the appellation of Saint-Joseph, which is the largest appellation of the area. It is a long slender area placed on the west bank of the Rhône river, producing some amazing red- and white wines, with the larger part of the production being red made from Syrah, while the whites are made from Marsanne and Roussanne.

While we will touch upon the whites of the region later, the focus today is the red wines made within the appellation. The reds usually have softer tannins than the wines of its neighbouring appellations, while also being a bit less ‘meaty’ and more fruit-forward. This makes them more approachable in their early life, and they also tend to be some of the more price friendly wines of the Northern-Rhône. It should however be noted that due to the size of the appellation, the style changes quite a bit as we move from north to south.

To provide you with a reference within the area, we have selected one wine from each appellation, that covers the style and quality very well.

Today’s wine is Saint-Joseph Rouge “Le Paradis Saint Pierre” 2017 from Domaine Pierre et Jérôme Coursodon:

This is a very rich and intense wine, with loads of dark fruits, herbs, spices, and some present but relatively soft tannins compared to other Northern-Rhône appellations, making the finish of the wine almost velvety. The wine has a bit of sweetness to the fruit, which is very nicely balanced out by a juicy acidity and loads of great minerality. The wine drinks very well right now, but there is a lot of potential for further cellaring, due to the intensity of the fruit and high quality of the wine. A great find from Saint-Joseph.

The wine can be bought online at chvin.dk

Champagne no. 5 from ChampagneWare! 🍾

This Bliard-Moriset is a Blanc de Blancs meaning it's made entirely on white Chardonnay grapes. All these grapes are picked from one of Champagnes' best known grand cru areas ‘Le Mesnil-sur-Oger’. On average the vines used in the making are 39 years old which makes a bottle of complex champagne.

In this bottle, you find nice aromas of freshly baked bread, cucumber, green apples, and pear in the nose. On the palate, it’s pleasing with well-integrated, high acidity, and a long aftertaste.

Overall this is a bottle of good and interesting champagne!

Champagne no. 4 from ChampagneWare! 🍾

This Champagne Roualet is a Grand Reserve made out of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir grapes. Reserve wines are quality wines held back in reserve for several different reasons. It is a luxury that not all the smaller houses can afford to keep in large quantities, but there is no denying the effect it has on the quality it may bring. Most commonly the role of reserve wines is similar to that of dosage in that it enables Champagne to be enjoyed at an earlier age, the sweetness of dosage balancing the acidity, whilst reserve wines giving richness, roundness, and accessibility.

In this bottle, you find nice aromas of honey, citrus, green apples, and pear in the nose. The body is much clearer with a lower acidity but pretty active bubbles. The champagne goes well with rich fish, shellfish, and mild and soft cheeses.

This extremely elegant wine in its unusual bottle will create a stir amongst your guests – its light freshness will delight connoisseurs. Revealed at its best as an aperitif.

Champagne no. 3 from ChampagneWare! 🍾

Roualet Blanc de Blancs, Vintage 2012(Champagne Roualet)

This is vintage champagne. Vintage in champagne only refers to the year the champagne is produced. Lots of champagnes are non-vintage (NV) which means they are a blend of different vintages. But this champagne is a vintage 2012 which means that all the grapes were harvested in 2012.

How do you find a bottle of good vintage champagne? You - of course - buy it from a great vintage, and 2012 is that. The best vintage since 2008.

This champagne has a lovely smell of brioche and white flowers. In the mouth, you will get tastes of yellow apple and peach, and it is smooth with low acidity. This champagne can easily be an aperitif, but it can also go with some snacks or a light starter.

You can find this Champagne at ChampagneWare - remember to use the CBSWINE15 discount!
