LIA Programme

Thanks so much to everyone who came to the end of this exhibition, we’re really happy to have had so many people visit us throughout the month it was showing. Thanks to the artists and to Joran van Soest for closing it out with such an incredible performance! These have been some very entertaining and learning filled months. We hope you have a safe trip home, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming the next group of artists! ⭐️

We are delighted to introduce our artist in residence, Joran van Soest, who has been with us throughout the month of July. His sculptures and paintings are on exhibition through July 25 at the archiv massiv, welcome! 💐

Joran van Soest

Joran van Soest (1994) is a Dutch born artist who graduated as a visual artist in 2018 from the Art Academy AKV St. Joost in Hertogenbosch. His relationship to his surroundings has been the focal point of his research. From innocent origins to a complex adulthood, physical companionship to thoughtful contemplation and submissive power versus overriding dominance. Joran moves between these extremes and defining his own definition of Intersubjective Space. His work results in a journey existing of various layers of (un)intended confrontations with corporeality and the powerful visual language that demands and maintains the attention of the viewer.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of visiting Elizabeth Gerdeman at her studio. We had an interesting conversation about Elisabeth’s work, how climate and nature are central themes, and how we can integrate outdoor spaces into the interior.

At the opening of our summer show, Shahad Al Hamdi (شهد ذي فنانة) will present a performance titled “Mustaghriba,” an interactive piece that reflects the feeling of alienation and the discovery of the unfamiliar wherever one goes.
