Our rivers are dying.

Once clear and clean, they now flow thick with mud and chemicals. Galamsey (illegal mining) has turned life-giving rivers into poison — and yet, it's still happening. Why? Because there’s money in it. And often, the people behind it are not the ones we see with shovels — they’re in suits, offices, and sometimes even in politics.

Now, the government has launched a new task force called the Blue Water Guards, meant to protect our rivers and stop galamsey. But let’s be honest…

We’ve seen this movie before.

Operation Vanguard. Operation Halt. Military crackdowns. They start with strength, make headlines, then disappear. Meanwhile, the miners come back — armed, organized, and sometimes better equipped than the ones sent to stop them.

So what’s going to make this different?

If we don’t deal with the real issues — corruption, poverty, and lack of enforcement — this will just be another uniformed group watching our rivers die.

I’m not against the Blue Water Guards. I want them to succeed. We all do. But they can’t win a fight if their hands are tied from above.

Protecting our water is not just about uniforms and press conferences — it’s about real action, real consequences, and real commitment.

If we lose our rivers, we lose everything.
