In 2025, LIBERECO worked across borders to make human rights violations visible and support people affected by repression in Belarus and the war in Ukraine.

Our work included psychosocial and medical support, humanitarian aid, legal assistance, trauma-informed peer support in Ukraine, letter-writing campaigns for political prisoners, and our godparenthood campaign.

Behind every figure are people, relationships and connections that make solidarity possible — and help people regain strength, hope and the capacity to act.

Thank you to our partners, supporters, volunteers and team for standing with us.

“Every morning I turned on my phone hoping my family was still alright. We all told our parents to wipe our chats from their phones. And we have created these fake stories that we are badly behaved children who don’t talk to our parents. And that’s why they don’t know anything about us.”

— Belarusian student, in an interview with DW News

The pressure on Belarusian students is not stopping.

Students of the European Humanities University European University in Vilnius are being pressured to abandon their studies and return to Belarus within 10 days — while their families face threats of prosecution and imprisonment.

Homes have been searched. Relatives have been interrogated. This is how the Belarusian regime reaches people even in exile.

This year, we are making our flashmob longer and louder — because the pressure continues, and we cannot stay silent.

Imagine studying abroad and building a safe future — and suddenly your parents call. Not because they miss you, but because Belarusian security authorities are threatening them with prosecution and imprisonment unless you abandon your studies and return to Belarus within ten days.

This is happening to students at the European Humanities University (EHU) in Vilnius, designated an “extremist organisation” by the Belarusian regime in April.

Students in exile are being pressured through their families in Belarus. Homes have been searched and relatives interrogated.

International attention can help protect others at risk of persecution.
