The Proton Therapy Center (PTC) located in Prague, Czech Republic, offers the most advanced and accurate form of radiotherapy currently available. Proton beam therapy, using pencil beam scanning, allows for a precise dose to be delivered to highly complicated target volumes while sparing nearby critical organs and healthy tissue. Since first opening in 2012, we have treated over 6,000 patients fro

Today we would like to introduce you to another one of our colleagues. One of our radiological assistants “Maxmilian Ačjak”.
🔵 Max came to us from the Faculty Hospital in Olomouc, where he previously worked. "When a colleague in Olomouc told me about the possibility of working at the Proton Center, I did not hesitate. The proton center is the only workplace in Czechia and Slovakia where proton therapy is utilized. There is a modern environment, and all of that together attracted me a lot. “
🔵 When asked what fulfills him in his profession, he replies: "I always feel good about our patients' feedback, their gratitude, it confirms me that I am doing a job that is really meaningful”

In May, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) held a several-day conference in Milan, Italy, focusing on paediatric oncology. The congress was attended by experts in paediatric oncology from all over Europe, as well as some non-European countries. 👩🏻⚕️👨🏼⚕️The children’s radiotherapy was dedicated to one full day of the programme, but as an important part of the treatment of many paediatric cancers, it was also discussed during the other days. 🍀A large group of physicians from the Czech Republic also attended the conference, amongst them was MUDr. Barbora Ondrová, who takes care of pediatric patients at PTC.❤ The next meeting will take place in May 2025 in Budapest, Hungary.

The 62nd annual conference of PTCOG, the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group, was held from June 10th to 15th. This time in Singapore, Asia. Experts from leading proton therapy centres from America, Asia and Europe presented the latest experiences and clinical results in the field of proton therapy for cancer. We are very proud that the papers of our physicians and physicists are regularly accepted. 🥰 This year, amidst the speakers was our Chief Medical Officer, Assoc. Jiří Kubeš, MD, PhD, Pavel Vitek, MD, PhD, MBA and Sarah Al-Hamami, MD. 🩺 The topics of their lectures were the possibilities of proton therapy for tumors in the nasopharynx, subhepatic region and the breast. The speakers were complemented by radiological physicist Ing. Matěj Navrátil, Ph.D. with a poster on advanced prostate cancer.

Every year on June 8th, we mark World Brain Tumour Day. 🧐 Its aim is to raise awareness and information about brain tumours, their prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Proton therapy is the most gentle way of irradiating brain and central nervous system tumours. Protons allow precise irradiation of the tumour area, thus protecting healthy tissues and organs from side effects. You can read about proton therapy for brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumours on our website in the “What we treat” section.🥰

April 7 is World Health Day, celebrated annually under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other related organizations. This day is intended to remind us that we should constantly strive to improve our quality of life and to take care of prevention.😉It is important to take a moment today to think about what positive things you could do to maintain your health. It could be something as small as a self-examination or scheduling regular visits to the doctor.🍀

Today is International HPV Awareness Day (human papillomavirus). Did you know that you can currently get vaccinated against some types of HPV viruses? 💪🏻There are more than 100 types of these viruses. At least 14 of them are classified as high risk and can cause a range of tumor diseases. Such as, for example, tumor diseases in the mouth, neck, and in women also the uterus. Viral human papillomavirus infection is mainly transmitted through sexual transmission through direct contact with an infected person. And vaccination is an effective prevention to prevent the HPV infection. In the Czech Republic, vaccination is paid for by public sources for all children from 11 to 15 years old. 🩵

On Monday, February 12th, we welcomed 28 students from seven different schools‼️ The students took part in the Particle Therapy Masterclass seminars, organized for high school students at the Proton Center. It was lead by our radiological physicists Kristýna Olsson Heřmanová, Martin Sýkora and Martin Kurucz, who prepared a rich program for the students. ☺️ They introduced them to topics such as the basics of particle physics, medical imaging methods and therapeutic radiation planning. The event also included a tour of the technical facilities of our Centre and a video conference with representatives from the GSI Centre - (a heavy ion research facility based in Darmstadt, Germany) and CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research). We have this event planned again in March, we are already looking forward to it!😊
