Live Your Life Like Chickens ❤️🐓❤️

20/05/2026

I put a pool filled with dirt in their coop, and oh my goodness… you would think I just built them a five-star spa resort 🐔🛁✨

They are absolutely living their best little chicken lives right now!

I’m starting to think I’ve got the Virgin Mary of chickens over here 😂🐓

This hen left the flock and coop over a year ago and has basically been living in the trees on her own ever since. Back when she was still in the coop, she managed to hatch one chick that turned out to be a rooster.

Now I have no roosters, no nearby neighbors, nothing that should even make this possible… and today she randomly shows up with a whole batch of new baby chicks 🥚🐣

At this point I’m genuinely confused. Where is she getting fertile eggs from?! 😂

Nothing says “I leave for work way too early” like stumbling into this kind of nonsense before the day has even properly started 😂🤦‍♂️

Kind of funny and kind of awkward 😂 My husband had knee replacement surgery recently, so I was sitting in the waiting room when I overheard a couple and her sister talking about chickens. That was all it took for me to jump in because chickens are basically my favorite topic 🐔

I told them I have 3 girls and was already reaching for my phone to show pictures like the proud chicken mom I am. But then they started talking about chickens as food and mentioned they were raised around them but don’t like them… definitely not my people 😭

I told them we love ours and that when they pass away I’ll bury them, and suddenly they looked at me like I was completely unhinged and the conversation just… died 😂

So I quietly put my phone away. Their loss though, because Penny and Barbra absolutely deserve to be admired 💕🐔

So apparently my little egg “donation” setup has officially gone neighborhood-wide 😂🥚

One of my neighbors has been getting eggs from me once a week, and today he shows up saying his backyard neighbor heard about it and wanted in too.

I said sure and gave him the basics, like rinsing/washing them properly before eating. He had a few questions, but the highlight was him asking if he needed to bleach the eggs when cleaning them 😭

Then he casually asks if he could hatch them, so I explained I don’t keep a rooster because they’re not allowed in city limits. He looks me straight in the eye and goes, “Do you need a rooster?” Sir… yes 😂🐓

If you want chicks, the eggs have to be fertilized.

He said he’d have to check online because he wasn’t entirely convinced. I swear this man was probably in his late 60s or early 70s and dead serious the whole time 😂

I swear… every time I end up with a group like this, I catch myself studying the ones right in the middle 👀

The ones standing extra tall, puffing their chests out, staring up at the sky like they already run the whole yard… yeah, those are the ones that always make me stop and think hmmmm 🤔

If I had to place an early bet, that’s usually where I’d put my money for the little roosters of the bunch 😂

Now don’t get me wrong, Silkies are experts at humbling you and proving you completely wrong later on… but after raising them for awhile, you definitely start noticing little patterns.

I’m curious what everybody else watches for…
👉 Do you have any early signs or “tells” that make you think chick or rooster?

I never imagined I’d be saying this, but Pearl has completely surprised me in the best possible way. This chicken has always been an absolute disaster — noisy, skittish, constantly getting into trouble, wandering into the neighbor’s yard, and laying her eggs literally anywhere except where she’s supposed to. She barely gives us a few eggs each year, yet somehow still manages to stay busy being a total menace. When she first went broody, I honestly doubted she’d be able to care for chicks at all. But somehow, she’s become the sweetest and most devoted little mama. She keeps them safe from storms, teaches them that I’m not a threat, bravely challenges the rest of the flock, and even accepted 4 orphan chicks like they had always belonged to her. I truly don’t know where these motherly instincts came from, but I couldn’t be prouder of her. God definitely knew exactly what He was doing, and Pearl has officially earned a spot much higher on my favorites list. 🐔🐣❤️

Every little peep, every tiny step, and every curious stare is basically them saying, “Mom knows everything.” Meanwhile mama is standing there calm and proud, keeping watch over her little fluff nuggets like the queen she is. 👑✨

I looked up for one second and realized the entire flock had formed a meeting circle and was silently staring at me like I owed them money. 😂🐔

How Dare You Not Have Any Snackies!!!!
Come out here, without snackies -again! I triple chicken dare you! Bah-Gawhhhk!

Kiddo is officially one of the flock now and honestly the chicks couldn’t be happier about it. 🐥💛
Everywhere Kiddo goes, there’s a tiny feathered fan club waddling right behind like little bodyguards on a very important mission. No fear, no drama — just pure “you’re our favorite human” energy. 😂✨
