At the first panel of the Sustainable Development Forum 2024, titled “Towards Sustainable Futures: Redefining Production and Consumption,” leading experts came together to discuss transformative strategies for achieving sustainability in production and consumption. The conversation emphasized the importance of circular economy practices and regenerative agriculture as key solutions to global environmental challenges. 🌿

The panelists shared valuable insights into the practical applications of these strategies, highlighting how innovation, collaboration, and policy alignment can accelerate the green transition. Examples included advanced technologies such as precision agriculture and sustainable business practices that reduce environmental impact while fostering economic growth.

The panel featured:
- Jorge Laguna-Celis, Head of the One Planet network - 10YFP (UN Environment Programme)
- Tijana Koprivica, Chief Business Sustainability Officer at Delta Holding and Chair of the UNGC Serbia Board of Directors
- Paul Lohmann, Research Associate at the El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics & Policy, University of Cambridge
- Ivanka Stojnic, Sustainability Manager for SEE at Nestlé

Moderating the discussion was Tamara Bullock, Director of Corporate Affairs for Europe and the Americas at Tetra Pak, who guided the panelists through a rich exchange of ideas and solutions.

This session underscored the urgency of rethinking traditional production and consumption models, demonstrating how collaborative efforts and innovative approaches are paving the way for a more sustainable future.

At the Sustainable Development Forum 2024, Professor Michael Pollitt from the Cambridge Judge Business School delivered a thought-provoking lecture exploring the intersection of climate change and religion. Highlighting the current global challenges, he stressed the urgent need for ambitious policies and international collaboration to accelerate the green transition. 🌿

Professor Pollitt outlined three key approaches to tackling climate change: technological innovation, such as advancements in renewable energy and carbon capture; global governance to ensure fair resource distribution; and economic models like carbon credit trading to fund sustainable development in poorer countries.

In one of the most compelling parts of his talk, he discussed the powerful role of religious communities in driving social change, citing historical examples like the peaceful protests in Leipzig in 1989 and the Jubilee 2000 campaign. Pollitt emphasized that religion can provide moral leadership and inspire action, helping to bridge the gap between scientific solutions and societal change.

His closing message was clear: ‘Climate change is not just a technical issue – it is the moral challenge of our generation.’ Professor Pollitt called for urgent action and collaboration, urging leaders and communities worldwide to unite in shaping a sustainable future.
