Day 5: Conclusion of the GBVIMS Training for Data Experts.

Day 5 marked the successful culmination of a one-week intensive training on the Gender-Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS), organized by TeenAlive - Cameroon with technical support from UNFPA Cameroon, within the framework of the Woman Eh Wuna Place Dey Project.

The final day's proceedings focused on crucial areas including data protection, data sharing agreements, practical data protection scenarios, and an overview of the Information Sharing Protocol (ISP).

Participants also completed the post-test, training evaluation, and reflected on the knowledge gained throughout the week.

The training officially concluded with remarks from MINPROFF, the UNFPA National GBV Coordinator for Cameroon, Madam Lilian Munezro, and the Executive Director of TeenAlive, who appreciated the commitment and active participation of all organizations involved.

Community Initiative For Developmental Action expresses sincere gratitude for this valuable learning opportunity, noting that the knowledge gained will significantly strengthen our systems and improve our response to GBV at the organizational level.

Special thanks are extended to UNFPA Cameroon and TeenAlive for facilitating this impactful training.

It also signified the GBVIMS certification data expert exams, where participants sat for an test to obtain the certificate from UN and partners. The director of TeenAlive delivered closing remarks, as did MINPROFF from YDE, who also provided concluding statements, expressing anticipation of utilizing expertise for high-quality data delivery in GBV and survivor-centered approaches.

Day 4 Highlights

GBVIMS Training for GBV Service Providers (NW/SW Cameroon).

Day 4 of the ongoing GBVIMS training proved both practical and impactful, as participants further developed their understanding of the Incident Recorder and its crucial role in GBV data management.

Today's sessions focused on an Incident Recorder overview, reviewing intake form scenarios, hands-on Incident Recorder practice, and linking intake forms with the Incident Recorder for accurate data entry.

Participants actively engaged using their laptops, working step-by-step through real-life scenarios under the expert guidance of GBVIMS specialists Mr. Charles and Madame Kathel.

The session emphasized the importance of accuracy, consistency, and survivor-centered documentation. Additionally, the UNFPA GBV National Coordinator, Mrs.

Lilian Munezro, made a special contribution to the training by sharing practical insights on the importance of timely and ethical reporting using the Incident Recorder, stressing the need for strict confidentiality and data protection standards at every stage of GBV case management and referrals. This training continues to strengthen the capacity of service providers under the “Women Eh Wuna Place Dey” Project, ensuring that survivors receive coordinated, safe, and dignified support backed by reliable data systems. Special thanks are extended to UNFPA Cameroon, TeenAlive - Cameroon, UNFPA Cameroon, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, the European Union in Cameroon, the Global Fund for Children, and UNICEF Cameroon.

Day 3.
From Knowledge to Practice: Strengthening Survivor-Centred Case Management on woman ehh project.

Today's GBV training progressed beyond theoretical foundations, focusing on hands-on, practical learning experiences that positioned participants at the forefront of real-world GBV response skills development.

The training commenced with an immersive session on consent, a fundamental principle of ethical and survivor-centred programming, where participants examined the concept of consent, its applications, and the critical distinctions between consent, assent, and informed consent.

A role-play simulation was utilized to illustrate these concepts, underscoring the necessity for enhanced skills in active listening, emotional sensitivity, and managing distress disclosures. The session highlighted the importance of clarifying consent and assent in practice and distinguishing between consent, assent, and caregiver roles, particularly in cases involving minors. The second session transitioned to data mapping and case management systems, where participants engaged in practical group work to map existing data collection, analysis, storage, and utilization processes within their organizations.

By visualizing these processes through flowcharts, participants identified gaps, strengthened accountability, and improved data-driven decision-making.

A key takeaway from the sessions was that effective protection programming necessitates not only technical knowledge but also the ability to apply it ethically, systematically, and consistently in the field.

The sessions, led by Charles with technical guidance from Lilian, reinforced a shared commitment to accountability, survivor dignity, and quality service delivery.

Enhancing GBV Response Systems Through Data Integrity, Ethics, and information sharing with katel and local partners.

Day 2 of the GBVIMS training , under the UNFPA-led “Woman eh” project, funded by GIZ, BMZ, and the EU, advanced participants' technical capacity in survivor-centred GBV data management and inter-agency coordination systems.

In a context where GBV remains widespread in crisis-affected regions of Cameroon, strengthening the quality and integrity of GBV data is essential to ensure effective, ethical, and coordinated response services. Led by UNFPA GBVIMS specialists Charles and Kathel, with support from Lilian (UNFPA), the session focused on the practical application of GBVIMS tools, including intake forms, survivor and incident coding, and GBV classification systems. Through hands-on exercises, participants strengthened their ability to apply standardised coding and classification under real case scenarios, reinforcing data quality and system coherence across organisations.

This investment directly contributes to inter-agency GBV information systems, improving coordination, and enhancing evidence-based decision-making for survivor protection.

Key Highlight: Participants applied GBVIMS tools in practical simulations, strengthening standardised coding and classification across organisations for improved data integrity. Key Takeaway: Accurate, standardised, and survivor-centred data is the backbone of an effective GBV response system; without it, coordination, accountability, and survivor protection are significantly weakened. The session reinforces UNFPA’s commitment to strengthening GBV systems through technical leadership while advancing localisation through partners like TeenAlive, a Women-Led Organisation driving field implementation.

This initiative aims to strengthen GBV data systems and survivor-centred response in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

Yesterday, Cohort 1 (Day 1) of the GBVIMS training for locally-led Women-Led Organisations (WLOs) was successfully launched.

The training responds to the pressing need for improved GBV information management systems in the region, where gender-based violence is widespread and disproportionately affects women and girls. Currently, only a limited number of organisations are fully certified to use the GBVIMS inter-agency system, and this training represents a strategic investment in expanding the pool of qualified actors. Key stakeholders, including the Regional Delegate of MINPROFF for the South West Region, the National GBV AoR Coordinator at UNFPA, Lilian, and the Executive Director of TeenAlive, emphasised the importance of reliable GBV data for informed government action and strengthened coordination.

The Regional Delegate underscored the need for accurate and confidential data systems to guide protection responses. Lilian highlighted UNFPA's technical leadership and GBVIMS expertise, while appreciating TeenAlive's logistics preparation.

The training focused on building a foundational understanding of the GBVIMS system, with practical applications and case studies. The programme is structured in three cohorts, reaching 75 participants from over 30 organisations. This project reflects TeenAlive's strengthened role as a Women-Led Organisation implementing high-impact humanitarian action and contributing to the UNFPA agenda of strengthening national GBV data systems.

As partners of Pcrs Kumba and humanitarian collaborators with extensive experience in promoting disabilities inclusiveness, we participated in the launch of a new project titled 'Inclusive Health, Protection, and Recovery Response for Crisis-Affected Populations in the Southwest Region of Cameroon'.
The Country Director elaborated on key project aspects, including objectives, duration, target population, and scope, which are crucial to the project's success.
